What makes us special? Ages 3-5

Pudsey s learning aims I can think about how we are different and how we are the same. I can think about how we are special and what makes us unique.

Key Words Special Unique Same Different Disability Friendship Senses

Pudsey s Theme Pudsey loves learning about what makes us all special. There are many ways in which we are different and many ways in which we are the same.

Pudsey s circle time rules 1. Hands up 2. Take turns to speak 3. Look at the speaker 4. Listen well 5. Use kind words 6. You can pass 7. Good sitting 8. Good waiting 9. Good thinking

Are we ready for circle time? We need to do 5 things for circle time to work... Look Listen Think Speak Concentrate

Are we ready? Can we remember our ground rules? We listen when anyone else is speaking We raise our hand if we want to speak We speak positively to each other We respect other people s ideas We do not name anyone and say negative things to them

Pudsey s Warm up Games Mix up Guess who Change places if... Pass a wave, hand shake and a smile

Pudsey s thinking round Let s pass Pudsey In what ways are we the same as each other? Look at the person sitting next to you, how might you be the same?

Pudsey s thinking round Let s pass Pudsey In what ways are we different to each other? Look at the person sitting next to you, how are you different?

Pudsey s Theme How are we special? We are all special in many different ways. In what ways are we special in this class?

Pudsey s Theme How are we special? Turn and talk to your partner, tell them 4 things that make you special. I like.. I am good at... I don t like... I sometimes find it hard to...

Pudsey s talking time How are we special? Using your mini whiteboard and pen - can you draw a picture of what makes you special? Turn and face your friend. Can you draw a picture of what makes your friend special?

Pudsey s talking time Let s pass Ted for the last time: Has there ever been a time where you have been made to feel different by people around you? How did it make you feel? What could we do if something like this happened?

Pudsey s Theme How are we special? Sometimes our friends may be unique because they are disabled. Being disabled might make using your movements, senses or activities more difficult. There are disabilities you can see and some you can t see.

Pudsey s Theme How are we special? Examples of disabilities include: A person who is blind or has trouble seeing A person who is deaf or has trouble hearing A person who has difficulty with movement A person was has difficulty with learning, communicating or understanding others

Pudsey s Games Silent sentences This game looks at what it might feel like to have trouble hearing. Let s try lip reading. Work in pairs Without speaking, take it in turns to tell each other your favourite food. Can you say a silly sentence to your friend. Could they understand the sentence?

Pudsey s Games Guiding along What is it like to have trouble seeing? In pairs, there will need to be someone who is blindfolded and someone who is a guide. The guide must help their partner get to the other side of the classroom without bumping into anything. You must talk to your partner to guide them correctly.

Pudsey s Games Fantastic Fingers This game looks at using sign language (BSL). Some children who are deaf use it to communicate. You might have some deaf friends! Let s learn how to count to 5 using our fingers. Ready, Steady, Show Pudsey!

Pudsey s Games This game looks at what it might feel like to have difficulty with using part of your body. Using one hand only, see if you can: Take your shoes on and off, if you have laces see if you can tie them Roll a ball across the circle to a friend Play catch with a partner

Pudsey s final thinking round Pudsey says we are all the same really, but differences make us special. Can you think of ways people might be similar? What might it be like if we were all the same?

Pudsey s learning aims I can think about how we are different and how we are the same. I can think about how we are special and what makes us unique.
