The little book of sound A step-by-step quick guide to using your LOF hearing aid
Don t miss another sound Sound helps us connect with the world. We founded Blamey Saunders hears because we want as many people as possible to experience the sounds around them fully. Academically and professionally, we have committed our lives to pioneering the science of making hearing easier so that people can take back control of their hearing. Our approach is simple, personal, accessible and fair. Because sound is a personal experience, we want to make sure what you hear is right for your needs. Blamey Saunders hearing aids are equipped with ADRO sound amplification to make sound more natural and comfortable. You can customise what you hear on your own computer with our IHearYou system. Our step-by-step guide explains how to use and take care of your Blamey Saunders hearing aids. It will help you make the most of your investment in our hearing technology. Well done taking the first steps to regaining control of your hearing. We are pleased to be a part of making hearing easier. Prof Peter Blamey and Dr Elaine Saunders
Step 1 Your hearing aids Step 2 Inserting batteries Thin acoustic tube Volume dial Program button SWITCH HEARING AIDS ON AND OFF. 2.1 Remove sticker from the positive side of the battery. 2.2 Carefully open the hearing aid door. 2.3 Insert battery positive-side-up. 2.4 Close battery door. 2.5 Hearing aid turns on with a beep. Battery door Retainer Door closed = ON Door open = OFF Flat battery is indicated by 6 beeps every few minutes.
Step 3 Using ear tips EAR TIPS HELP with comfort. Ear tips are soft silicon domes that fit over the acoustic tube tip. The purpose is to hold the tube more securely in the ear canal. Usage is optional for comfort and replacements can be ordered online. The largest size is called a tulip. It also boosts volume by partially occluding the canal (this stops sound leaking out). Step 4 Inserting hearing aids IT BECOMES EASIER WITH PRACTICE Medium Large Tulip (occluding) How to use 3.1 Choose a comfortable size: small, medium, large or tulip. 3.2 Slide firmly over the tube tip. How to insert 4.1 Hook the hearing aid over your ear. 4.2 Guide the tube over the front of your ear and push the tube tip gently into the ear canal. 4.3 Tuck the retainer back into the bowl of your ear. This retainer can be trimmed or removed if you prefer.
Step 5 Volume Step 6 Special Programs Volume adapts automatically. You can turn the volume up and down manually with the volume dial, but most people won t need to. How to adjust volume Rolling up the dial increases volume. Rolling down reduces the volume. There is a beep to indicate when you cross the midpoint. The volume dial is numbered 1 (softest) to 4 (loudest). When the volume is below 1, the device clicks off (mute). CUSTOMISE FOR SPECIFIC ENVIRONMENTS. Most people use one everyday program: It adapts to all environments. However, up to four programs can be created and customised with the IHearYou programmer box and software. Some people like to keep one program for experimenting. Some people create extra programs: For fluctuating hearing losses. For a particular environment that you want to sound different. Volume dial Louder = roll up Softer = roll down How to change programs Hearing aids start up in program 1. During use push the program button; or tap upper ear with magnetic wand, then remove the wand. This opens and closes a switch in the hearing aid and switches programs. If you have extra programs, you will hear: 1 beep for program 1 2 beeps for program 2... and so on When you set up the hearing aid on the computer the volume you hear is that of the midpoint on the dial. The volume dial is disabled when the hearing aid is connected to the computer. Your LOF is usually shipped with the telecoil mode in program 2. WARNING: Do not place the magnetic wand near computer equipment or credit cards. It is safe to store the magnetic wand inside your hearing aid wallet. IHearYou is a registered trademark of Blamey & Saunders Hearing Pty Ltd.
Step 7 Cleaning WAX build-up is the number one cause of hearing aid failure. A small amount of wax can greatly attenuate volume. Tube removal 7.1 Do not pull the tube itself, grasp the connector. 7.2 Twist the connector 90 degrees. 7.3 Pull straight out. Left = clear Right = blocked Step 8 Drying MOISTURE BUILD UP CAN AFFECT THE DELICATE INTERNAL CIRCUITRY OF YOUR HEARING AIDS AND ALSO REDUCE BATTERY LIFE. Our drying jars include a desiccant that slowly draws out the moisture from your hearing aids. How to dry Store your hearing aids in the jar overnight. It is important to read the instructions in the jar carefully. Fresh jars can be ordered online Tubes can be replaced, or cleaned as follows: Using the tube cleaning tool. Rinsing the tube in warm water. Blowing air through the tube. Thoroughly dry the tube.
