Te Admissions Process for Hearing Students All hearing applicants will work closely with the Bachelor of Arts in Interpretation (BAI) and Hearing Undergraduate (HUG) admissions counselor. The BAI/HUG admissions counselor is readily available to assist you during the two-phase application process. Phase 1 of screening is initiated by completing the online undergraduate application. For programspecifc requirements, your admissions counselor will contact you regarding eligibility to continue with Phase 2. Online application $50 application fee Two essays: English and ASL Phase 1: Admissions Requirements One letter of recommendation Copies of ofcial transcripts ACT and/or SAT test scores Phase 2: Program-specifc Requirements Bachelor of Arts in Interpretation (BAI) Program BAI language profciency evaluation American Sign Language Profciency Interview (ASLPI) The Bachelor of Arts in Interpretation Program Our renowned interpretation program draws hearing and deaf students from around the globe. Comprehensive coursework and fieldwork will provide you with the knowledge and skills in ASL interpreting to achieve success in this high-demand career. The program includes hands-on training in a variety of settings, as well as supporting courses in ASL, deaf studies, biological sciences, and linguistics. Hearing Undergraduate (HUG) Program HUG interview American Sign Language Profciency Interview (ASLPI) Enter Any Major as a Hearing Undergraduate Student Each year we accept a select group of hearing frst year and transfer students to our Hearing Undergraduate (HUG) program. Spending most of my time with deaf and hard of hearing students is where I feel most comfortable. My journey towards becoming an interpreter feels just right. Gallaudet gave me a chance to explore my CODA identity, study my frst language at an advanced level with amazing professors, and discover employment opportunities in the Deaf community. Gallaudet is my second home. OUR FACULTY ARE LEADERS IN THEIR DISCIPLINES AND IN THE DEAF COMMUNITY.
6 Full Immersion If you are a hearing student who already knows American Sign Language, full immersion is benefcial in increasing one s awareness and knowledge of ASL, Deaf Culture, and the signing community. With students, faculty and staf using ASL and English, every class, every club and every conversation can be visual.
