6 Task 2: Facilitating communication This task is about describing how environmental factors can help to improve visual communication with Deaf and hearing impaired people. 1 How do you create a positive visual communication environment? 9 Task 3: Visual strategies This task is about describing and using visual strategies to support communication with Deaf and hearing impaired people. 1 Describe two strategies (other than NZSL or an interpreter) you have used to help communicate with a Deaf or hearing impaired person. In your response, you may want to choose strategies from the following list: facial expressions. body language. gesture. use of pen and paper to write or draw. lip reading. communication boards or books. alerting devices. something else (say what it is). 10 Use visual strategies to communicate with people who are Deaf or hearing impaired - verification Ask your verifier or assessor to complete the verification form to confirm that you have used two visual strategies to communicate with people who are Deaf or hearing impaired and who must have had their communication needs assessed by a qualified communications specialist. The verifier may be someone such as your manager, supervisor or team leader or your assessor. This must be a person who has observed your work over a period of time and can confirm that you complete the tasks to the standard required. Read the checklist so you know what is being verified. Your assessor may contact your verifier to discuss their comments. Note to verifier: Verification You have been asked to complete this verification as the supervisor/manager of the trainee. You must have observed the trainee working over a period of time. You need to be confident that the information they have provided is correct and that the trainee uses two visual strategies to communicate with people who are Deaf or hearing impaired. These people must have had their communication needs assessed by a qualified communications specialist. If you agree that the trainee meets these standards please tick the boxes below. If you do not agree please discuss the requirements with the trainee. Please comment on the trainee performance. The assessor may wish to contact you to discuss this verification.
