Warnings You should familiarize yourself fully with the following general warnings and the en re contents of this booklet before using your hearing aid to ensure personal safety and correct use. Consult your hearing are professional if you experience unexpected opera ons or events with your hearing aid. Please note that a hearing aid will not restore normal hearing and will not prevent or improve a hearing impairment resul ng from organic condi ons. Furthermore, note that in most cases, infrequent use of a hearing aid does not permit a user to a ain full benefit from it. 25

Usage of Hearing Aids Hearing aids should be used only as directed and adjusted by your hearing care professional. Misuse can result in sudden and permanent hearing loss. Never allow others to wear your hearing aid as incorrect usage could cause permanent damage to their hearing. Choking Hazards and Risk of Swallowing Ba eries Hearing aids, their parts, and ba eries should be kept out of reach of children and anyone who might swallow these items, or otherwise cause injury to themselves Ba eries have occasionally been mistaken for pills. Therefore check your medicine carefully before swallowing any pills. If a ba ery or other small parts are swallowed, see a doctor immediately. 26

Ba ery Use Always use ba eries recommended by your hearing care professional. Ba eries of low quality may leak and cause bodily harm. Never a empt to recharge your ba eries and never dispose of ba eries by burning them. There is a risk that the ba eries will explode. AcoMate 610 OF A10 Zinc-Air ba ery AcoMate 821 OF A10 Zinc-Air ba ery AcoMate 1210 OF A10 Zinc-Air ba ery Note:A312 ba ery is op onal for above three models. Dysfunc on Be aware of the possibility that your hearing aid may stop working without no ce. Keep this in mind when you depend on warning sounds (e.g., when you are in traffic). The hearing aids may stop func oning, for instance if the ba eries have expired or if the speaker is blocked by moisture or ear wax. 27

X-ray, CT, MR, PET Scanning and Electrotherapy Remove your hearing aid for example during X-ray, CT/MR/PET scanning electrotherapy or surgery as your hearing aid may be damaged when exposed to strong fields. Avoiding Heat and Chemicals Your hearing aid must never be exposed to extreme heat e.g., le inside a parked car in the sun Your hearing aid must not be dried in microwave ovens or other ovens The chemicals in cosme cs, hairspray, perfume, a er shave lo on, suntan lo on and insect repellent can damage your hearing aid. Always remove your hearing aid before applying such products and allow me to dry before pu ng it on. 28

Ac ve Implants Cau on must be taken with ac ve implants Your Autophone magnet or Mul Tool or Cleaning tool (which has a built-in magnet) should be kept more than 30 cm away from the implant, e.g. do not carry it in a breast pocket. In general, please follow the guidelines recommended by the manufacturer of implantable defibrillators and pacemakers on use with magnets. If you have an ac ve brain implant, please contact the manufacturer of your implantable device for informa on about the risk of disturbance. D Explosives The power source in your hearing aid has insufficient energy to cause fire in normal usage condi ons. The hearing aid has not been tested for compliance with interna onal standards concerning explosive environments. We recommended not to use your hearing aid in areas where there is a danger of explosions. 29

Power Instrument Special care should be exercised in selec ng, fi ng and using a hearing aid where maximum sound pressure capability exceeds 132 db SPL (IEC ), as there may be risk of impairing the remaining hearing of the hearing instrument user. For informa on of whether your instrument is a power instrument, please ask your hearing care professional. Possible Side Effects Hearing Aid, molds or domes may cause an accelerated accumula on of ear wax The otherwise non-allergenic materials used in hearing aids may in rare cases cause a skin irrita on or other side effects. Please seek consulta on with a physician if there condi ons occur. 30

Interference Your hearing aid has been thoroughly tested for interference, according to the most stringent interna onal standards. However, interference with your hearing aid and other device may occur, (e.g., some mobile telephones, ci zen band systems, and shop alarm systems). If this occurs, increase the distance between hearing aid and device. Warning to Hearing Aid Dispensers A hearing aid dispenser should advise a prospec ve hearing aid user to consult promptly with a licensed physician (preferably an ear specialist) before dispensing a hearing aid and if the hearing aid dispenser determines through inquiry, actual observa on, or review of any other available informa on concerning the prospec ve user, that the prospec ve user has any of the following condi ons: (i) Visible congenital or trauma c deformity. 31

(ii) History of ac ve drainage from the ear within the previous 90 days. (iii)history of sudden or rapidly progressive hearing loss within the previous 90 days. (iv) Acute or chronic dizziness. (v)unilateral hearing loss of sudden or recent onset within the previous 90 days. (vi) Audiometric air-bone gap equal to or greater than 15 decibels at 500 hertz (Hz), 1,000 Hz, and 2,000 Hz. (vii) Visible evidence of significant cerumen accumula on or a foreign body in ear canal. (viii) Pain or discomfort in the ear. Special care should be exercised in selec ng and fi ng a hearing aid whose maximum sound pressure level exceeds 132 decibels because there maybe risk of impairing the remaining hearing of the hearing aid user. (This provision is required only for those hearing aids with a maximum sound pressure capability greater than 132 decibels (db).) 32

Important No ce for Prospec ve Hearing Aid Users Good health prac ce requires that a person with a hearing loss have a medical evalua on by a licensed physician (preferably a physician who specializes in diseases of the ear) before purchasing a hearing aid. Licensed physicians who specialize in diseases of the ear are o en referred to as otolaryngologists, otologists, or otorhinolaryngologists. The purpose of medical evalua on is to assure that all medically treatable condi ons that may affect hearing are iden fied and treated before the hearing aid is purchased. Following the medical evalua on, the physician will give you a wri en statement that states that your hearing loss has been medically evaluated and that you may be considered a candidate for a hearing aid. The physician will refer you to an audiologist or a hearing aid dispenser, as appropriate, for a hearing aid evalua on. 33

The audiologist or hearing aid dispenser will conduct a hearing aid evalua on to assess your ability to hear with and without a hearing aid. The hearing aid evalua on will enable the audiologist or dispenser to select and fit a hearing aid to your individual needs. Children with Hearing Loss In addi on to seeing a physician for medical evalua on, a child with a hearing loss should be directed to an audiologist for evalua on and rehabilita on since hearing loss may cause problems in language development and educa on and social growth of a child. An audiologist is qualified by training and experience to assist in the evalua on and rehabilita on of a child with a hearing loss. 34

Safety Informa on Hearing aid should be adjusted by a trained hearing care professional Never insert cleaning tools into the sound outlet or microphone inlet. This could damage the hearing aid. Remove your hearing aid before sleeping Keep your hearing aid in the case for protec on when you are not wearing it Be aware of the possibility that the direc onal microphone in your hearing aid may reduce the volume of some warning sounds coming from behind you. 35

Interna onal Warranty Your hearing aid is covered by an interna onal limited warranty issued by the manufacturer from the date of delivery. f The limited warranty covers manufacturing and material defects in the hearing aid itself, but not accessories such as ba eries, tubing, ear wax filters etc. Problems arising from improper handling or care, excessive use, accidents, repairs made by an unauthorized party, exposure to corrosive condi ons, physical changes in your ear, damage due to foreign objects entering the device, or incorrect adjustments are NOT covered by the limited warranty and may void it. f The above warranty does not affect any legal rights that you might have under applicable na onal legisla on governing sale of consumer goods. Your hearing care professional may have issued a warranty that goes beyond the clauses of this limited warranty. 36

Please consult him/her for further informa on Do not a empt to repair your device yourself 37

Mobile Phone Some hearing aid users have reported a buzzing sound in their hearing aid when they are using mobile phones, indica ng that the mobile phone and hearing aid may not be compa ble.
