FIRST-YEAR DENTAL STUDENTS BY THE NUMBERS Total Enrollment: 80 Gender: Female: 37 Male: 43 Minority: 15 Age Range: years Science GPA: 3.63 With integrated and collaborative research programs in craniofacial genetics, developmental anomalies, immunology, cariology, bone and tissue engineering, public health, and public policy, the College of Dentistry is on the cutting edge of revolutionary scientific research. Accepted First-Year Dental Students: 70% Iowa (Approximate) 30% Out-of-State (Approximate) Over the past three years, the college has supported these on-going research efforts by recruiting more than 14 new faculty. Advanced Programs: Advanced Education in General Dentistry, Affiliated Kirkwood Dental Hygiene Program, Dental Public Health, Endodontics, General Practice, Geriatrics, Operative Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontics, and Prosthodontics. Our student research program places Iowa as one of the top dental schools in number of presentations at annual international dental research meetings. An estimated 99% of Iowans are within a 30-minute drive of a practicing University of Iowa alumnus. Providing an adequate number of dentists for rural Iowa will remain a challenge.
