College of Dentistry The facility opened in A $65 million building transformation was completed in 2016.
3 EDUCATION The College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics is one of only two dental schools in the nation to offer advanced education in all nine ADA-recognized dental specialties. FIRST-YEAR DENTAL STUDENTS BY THE NUMBERS Total Enrollment: 80 Gender: Female: 37 Male: 43 Minority: 15 Age Range: years Science GPA: 3.63 With integrated and collaborative research programs in craniofacial genetics, developmental anomalies, immunology, cariology, bone and tissue engineering, public health, and public policy, the College of Dentistry is on the cutting edge of revolutionary scientific research. Accepted First-Year Dental Students: 70% Iowa (Approximate) 30% Out-of-State (Approximate) Over the past three years, the college has supported these on-going research efforts by recruiting more than 14 new faculty. GRADUATE AND ADVANCED PROGRAMS As a result, the College of Dentistry had a 5% increase in external federal funding from 2017 to 2018, bringing the total amount of federal funding up to almost five million dollars. Highest Degree: Bachelor's Degree: 79 Master's: 1 PATIENT CARE The College of Dentistry had over 174,000 patient visits in and 27 outreach programs that served 96 counties. Annual Patient Visits to the College of Dentistry: College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics: 153,000 University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics: 20,000 Annual Clinical Income: $27 million Patient Care Areas for Students, Residents and Faculty: Endodontics, Family Dentistry, General Practice Residency, Geriatric and Special Care Dentistry, Operative Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Oral Diagnosis, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontics, Preventive Dentistry, and Prosthodontics. Faculty Practitioners in All Areas Community-Based Externship Sites: All 4th-year dental students participate in two 5-week community rotations where they provide care in a variety of settings including: community health centers, hospital-based dental clinics, private practice, Indian Health Service clinics, geriatrics and nursing homes.
