All 93 victims recovered from the sea were identified at the Department of Forensic Medicine (present Hjelt Institute) in Finland. Dental identification was established in 57 cases. - Since 2006 FFET belongs to the permanent structure of the Hjelt Institute, Department of Forensic Medicine. Since then FFET has organize training in Peru and Colombia, and been involved in medico-legal consultations in Chechnya, investigations in Nepal, Libya, Iraq and has contributed to institutional cooperation and capacity building in BiH, Croatia and Nepal. The assignments are based on requests from various international communities (for example, the UN, the EU, the European Council, truth and reconciliation commissions) via the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
