EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES At the completion of this course, participants should be able to: 1. Describe and discuss contemporary techniques, workflows and materials utilized in prosthetic and dental implant therapy. 2. Recognize common oral and jaw lesions affecting patients in a general dentistry setting. 3. Select appropriate common treatments for lesions in patients who can be managed locally and recognize when their condition requires an outside referral. 4. Assess the evolution of zirconia in dentistry, its current applications, limitations, design parameters and clinical management. 5. Interpret the latest soft and hard tissue augmentation techniques in restorative and dental implant therapies. 6. Recognize the influence of digital dentistry on dentist-technician communication, treatment planning and outcome of dental procedures. 7. Utilize computer guided implant therapy and treatment planning software in today s dental practice. 8. Value the importance of thorough dento-facial analysis in the treatment planning of esthetically demanding clinical situations. 4 ABOUT THE SPEAKERS Ryan Cook, DDS, MS is originally from North Carolina were he graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Southern California. Upon the completion of dental school, he was trained at the University of Texas Health Science Center- San Antonio in a dual residency program in Periodontics and Prosthodontics. During his residency he completed his Master of Science exploring the topic of Periodontal Biotype and Labial Plate Thickness. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and American Board of Periodontology. After maintaining a full time practice in Laguna Niguel, California he entered academia where he is currently the Director of the Advanced Education in Prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. Lee Culp, CDT is the CEO of Sculpture Studios, a dental laboratory, education, research, and product development center for new and innovative digital dental technologies, and their applied applications to diagnostic, restorative and surgical dentistry. He is the 2007 recipient of the Kenneth Rudd Award from the American Society of Prosthodontics, the 2007 recipient of the AACD Presidents Award for Excellence in Dental Education, as well as the 2003 recipient of the National Association of Dental Laboratories, Excellence in Education Award, and the 2013 American College of Prosthodontics-Dental Technician Leadership Award, as well as the 2014 Spectrum Publishing-Lifetime Achievement award, and the Dr Peter Dawson 2016 Dentistry Distinguished Service Award. He is a leading resource/inventor for many of the materials, products, and techniques used in dentistry today, and holds numerous patents for his ideas and products. Lee writes many articles per year, and his writing, photography, and teaching style have brought him international recognition, as one of today s most exciting lecturers and innovative artisans in the specialty of digital dentistry, dental ceramics and functional esthetics. Ingeborg J. De Kok, DDS, MS is an Associate Professor in Prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina, School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill, NC. Dr. De Kok completed her DDS training at Central University of Venezuela in 1997 and received her Prosthodontics Certificate and MS Degree in Oral Biology at UNC in She completed a fellowship in Implant Dentistry at UNC as well in Dr. De Kok has been a faculty member at UNC since Her major research interests include clinical improvement with the use of dental implants. Matthew Hopfensperger, DDS, MS is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. Dr. Hopfensperger joined the faculty in 1998 and is the Director of the extensive UNC Predoctoral Dental Implant Program and initiated the elective UNC Predoctoral Implant Surgery Course. He received his DDS degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in The following year he attended the GPR Program at Sinai Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. After gaining additional private practice experience, he returned to U of M and received a MS degree in Prosthodontics in Upon graduation, he served on the faculty of the University of Western Australia from 1992 to In conjunction with his wife, Dr. Sian Kwa, (who is also a Prosthodontist) he founded the first specialty practice of the Netherlands, which they operated together for 5 years until Dr. Hopfensperger maintains an active practice in the UNC Dental Faculty Practice, which focuses on advanced restorative and implant dentistry. Ricardo Padilla, DDS, BS received his BS and DDS degrees from The Universidad Francisco Marroquin School of Dentistry in Guatemala. Subsequently, he completed a 3-year postgraduate Residency Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at the University of Florida, and then a Post- Doctoral Fellowship in Head and Neck-Ear Nose & Throat Surgical Pathology at the University of Texas. He became a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology in 1999, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology in 2001.
5 SPEAKERS CONTINUED In 2002 he was recruited to join the faculty at UNC where he is now an Associate Professor. He has been the Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Residency Program since He is also the Director of multiple courses for Dental Residents, Dental Students, and frequently teaches CE courses nationally and internationally. He is also a guest lecturer in Dermatology and Pathology at UNC, teaches in the Physician Assistant Program at Duke University Medical Center, and the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program at Vanderbilt University. He has presented in numerous national and international meetings and has published multiple papers in peer-reviewed meetings and publications. He is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and an Examiner in the Fellowship Committee of the AAOMP. He is a member of multiple professional associations, including the ADA, ADEA, the NC Dental Society, the Dental Society of Guatemala, and others. He is in the Editorial Board of OOOO and is a Manuscript Reviewer for scientific journals including JADA, OOOO, JOMS, Head and Neck Pathology, and others. Lida Swann, DDS, MS received her DDS in 2002 from Colegio Universitario Colombiano and her Master in Prosthodontics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in She was then awarded the UNC Dental - Implant Surgical Fellowship, and then offered a full time faculty position in the Department of Prosthodontics. Her educational focus is on implant research and applications of digital technology on implant placement and restorative procedures, and on proper tooth preparation and tissue management for Cad-Cam restorations, as well as, materials science with regard to cementation and restorative materials options. Dr. Swann lectures nationally and internationally on Cad-Cam technology and other topics related to restorative dentistry. She has presented lectures for several dental associations, like the American Prosthodontic Society and The American College of Prosthodontics. "This course is by far the best bag for the buck.
