1 Course Syllabus INTRODUCTION TO IMPLANT DENTISTRY (DSP 432) Course Director Dr. Fawaz Alqahatni
2 Course Descriptions This is a lecture-seminar course designed to provide students with a deep understanding of introductory concepts in implant dentistry. It covers a basic overall understanding and facets of implementing implant dentistry, including surgical and prosthetic components. An overview of available implant systems with clinical applications including patient selection, diagnosis and treatment planning, implant placement, interim prosthetic management and definitive prosthodontic care in the field of implant dentistry will also be presented. PRE-REQUISITE: DSP 332 COURSE CREDIT: 1 Credit Hours One (1) Credit Hour = One (1) hour lecture weekly for first semester Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the following are expected: Basic overall understanding and facets of implementing implant dentistry, including surgical and prosthetic components Understanding tissue management as it relates to dental implant surgical procedures Understanding that implant dentistry is a prosthetic discipline with a surgical component Understanding of Surgical Diagnosis and Treatment Planning starting with the anticipated prosthetic result Understanding the basic knowledge of bone grafting procedures related to dental implants
3 Understandings the role of implant dentistry in the future dental practice Attendance: Attendance is mandatory for all lectures, and seminars. Final grades are based on attendance, seminar participation and the written assessments. Quizzes and Exam: Periodic quizzes will be given which are related to the daily assigned reading materials. They will be given at the beginning of each class period. A final examination will be given the last class of the quarter that consists of multiple choices and short essay questions. Grading: 1. Continuous Assessment a. Periodic quizzes 10% b. Mid-term written exam 20% c. Student attendance and participation 10% Total 40% 2. Final Exam a. Written Exam 60%
