1 Fluoride Varnish Program Catalog - Results of Survey This catalog contains information about the use of varnish in elementary schools, kindergarten through grade 12 in school The responders defined the use of varnish and/or having a varnish program differently, and answered accordingly. For example some programs did not answer yes if they used varnish in addition to a sealant program. Some programs answered, yes, indicating varnish was not used in elementary schools. We were not able to clearly identify programs that offered only varnish. The number of programs and contacts may have change. 12 *217 ASTDD Synopses of State Dental Public Programs Data For FY State Description ALABAMA ALASKA ARKANSAS DELAWARE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA FLORIDA GEORGIA IDAHO IOWA LOUISIANA MASSACHUSETTS MICHIGAN MINNESOTA MISSOURI MONTANA NEBRASKA NEW MEXICO NORTH CAROLINA NORTH DAKOTA OHIO OKLAHOMA TENNESSEE TEXAS Early Head Start and Head Start programs Limited - Coverage in Medicaid but not a formal ongoing program - OHP has assisted some trainings. Paint A Smile program hired two PR dental hygienists to visit family practice and pediatrican offices. Fluoride varnish is included in the sealant program Fluoride varnishes are provided through our School-Based Preventive Oral Program. Services are provided to public schools and some independent early childhood education centers/head Start Programs. 5 CHD Dental Programs provided 117,351 clients aged -2 s with varnish applications (CDT Code D126) in CY 216. (Source: HMS) Includes Head Start, school based programs, and clinical Application of varnish, oral health education, and dental home referral if needed. Services are delivered in childcare settings. The I-Smile and I-Smile@ School programs include varnish as a preventive service. Summer camp project with Girls and Boys Club and back-to-school event coordinated by hospital system. Part of SEAL school-based dental program Sponsors the Babies Too! varnish program. Child and Teen Checkups (MN EPSDT) sites provide services to the clients. PSP provides two doses of varnish per school for all participants. Primary care outreach as part of OHP communication plan targeting high need regions. This is monitored via CMS-416 indicator 12f. Over 8% of children in five programs received varnish. Fluoride varnish program targeting Head Start and other pre-school aged programs. "Into the Mouth of Babes" program provides varnish from birth - 3 1/2 s of age for at risk children. Fluoride varnish in the school based sealant program and the older adult oral health care program. Ohio does not have varnish program but provides the Smiles for Ohio training to teach primary care providers to do oral screenings, apply varnish and make referrals for dental care. FV by PH nurses in CHDs; Delta Dental Cavity Prevention Clinic; OHCA FV by non-dental providers (estimated). Public health nurse's varnish program OHP provides limited oral evaluations and preventive dental services to eligible low-income, underserved, pre-school and school-aged children.
13 VERMONT VIRGINIA WEST VIRGINIA WISCONSIN The SOHP has worked with the VT AHEC to promote and conduct the From the First Tooth Fluoride Mouthrinse Training in primary medical health care practices that see children. RSDH and public health nurses applied varnish to WIC-enrolled infants and children through the BSB program, including 274 CSHCN in Care Connection Clinics. We are currently working to expand varnish services in non-dental settings, such as with well child visits. Fluoride varnish is applied as part of the Seal-A-Smile program.
