2 Join Us At The 32nd edition of the Annual Dental Review will be held at the beautiful Embassy Suites Resort at Kingston Plantation and should prove to be a GREAT UPDATE FOR THE GENERAL DENTIST. This year s program will feature MANY NEW TOPICS of interest to the GP. The program will be highlighted by an excellent line-up of speakers including Dr. Glenn Maron, a noted oral surgeon who is our featured speaker, as well as the ever popular guest speaker, Dr. Randy Huffines, along with outstanding faculty from UNC. Day 1 will be highlighted by Dr. Glenn Maron who is back by popular demand. Dr. Maron is the team doctor for the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Falcons and was the designated oral surgeon for the Summer Olympic Games in Dr. Maron is widely known for his common sense presentations on clinically relevant topics in oral surgery and related topics. A board-certified oral surgeon, Dr. Maron currently maintains a private practice in Atlanta, and serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Emory University School of Medicine. This presentation on Day 1 will include an eye-opening and vital presentation on the management and treatment of sports injuries. Dr. Maron s experience with professional sports injuries and expertise in their prevention and treatment will be readily evident in this superb presentation. Also returning on Day 1 is the well-known, Dr. Randy Huffines, who will review clinical pearls in removable prosthodontics. Topping off a superb day of talented teachers is Dr. Taiseer Sulaiman, who will present a phenomenal look into demystifying mimicry of the natural dentition. This is an amazing look into the world of color in dentistry that you will not want to miss! Day 2 will start with an extended look at current controversies in dentistry by Drs. Terry Donovan and Harald Heymann. Included among the topics to be addressed are pulp capping, non-carious cervical lesions, bonding zirconia, selection of ceramic crowns and other controversial topics. Additionally on Day 2, Dr. Edward Swift will provide the latest information on contemporary adhesives in dentistry. No one in the country knows more about dental adhesives, so don t miss this opportunity to hear what s new in this ever changing area of dentistry. Day 3 will kick off with a continuation of Dr. Huffines lecture on clinical pearls in removable prosthodontics. Thereafter, Dr. Sumitha Ahmed, a very talented lecturer, will address effective tissue management for restorative procedures. Finally, our featured speaker, Dr. Glenn Maron, will provide an insightful look at what general dentists can do to diagnose and treat sleep disorders. ACTIVITY OBJECTIVES At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to: 1. Identify risk factors for sports injuries including concussion maxillofacial trauma and how best to prevent and treat them. 2. Describe the basic concepts of sleep medicine, reading polysomnograms, diagnosing sleep disorders, and discuss the roles of oral appliance therapy and surgery in treating them. 3. Chronicle and differentiate among the many new ceramic systems and how best to select which one is best for the given clinical situation. 4. Describe the causes, prevention and treatment of nocarious cervical lesions. 5. Relate the fundamentals of tooth color to clinical applications and how they are important to achieving consistently successful esthetic restorations. 6. Identify the various means of optimizing tissue management in light of the various contemporary retraction systems that are available. 7. Describe the many clinical procedures recommended for optimizing results with removable prosthetic devices. Meet the Speakers Dr. Glenn Maron received both his DDS degree in 1986 as well as his training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Emory University. A board-certified oral surgeon, Dr. Maron currently maintains a private practice in Atlanta, and serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Maron is highly regarded for his skills in reconstructive surgery as well as managing complex maxillofacial trauma cases. Dr. Randy Huffines for 30 years has treated older and medically complex adults in a traditional private practice, nursing homes, and hospitals. In 1988 he completed a two-year clinical Fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry. For the past 25 years he has been Director of Geriatric Dentistry at the Quillen Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. He has faculty appointments in colleges of dentistry, medicine, nursing, and allied health. Dr. Huffines is a Past President and a Fellow of the American Society for Geriatric Dentistry, Fellow of the American Association of Hospital Dentists, and Diplomate of the American Board Special Care Dentistry. He is a Fellow of and Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, Scotland. Condominiums throughout the Plantation offer a spacious alternative in natural surroundings for even more privacy. One, two, and three-bedroom wood view and lake view villas are available. We have reserved a block of suites and villas for your arrival on Wednesday, June 17 and departure on Sunday, June 21. The cancellation request must include: the name of the activity, name of the person registered, name of the person requesting the cancellation, and the reason for the cancellation. No refunds will be issued after Tuesday, June 9, The UNC School of Dentistry Continuing Dental Education Program cannot be responsible for the refund of any part of the registration fee as a result of emergencies, unforeseen circumstances, or events beyond its control after the cancellation date. The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. Up to 4 hours of continuing education credit per day, subject to regulation by individual state boards. This course will be held daily from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. Your registration fee includes a continental breakfast each morning, course materials and CE credit. UNC CDE recommends that you do not make air travel arrangements prior to receiving a receipt of payment or confirmation. UNC CDE is not responsible for an travel-related costs.
