1 BDA CDS GROUP YORKSHIRE AND THE HUMBER DIVISION Sensing and Treating Sensibly Summer Scientific Meeting Friday 19 th June 2015 The Summer Scientific Meeting this year has a dual theme with our morning session focusing on children with oral sensory and communication issues and the afternoon session looking at the restorative challenges presented by adults with additional needs. This meeting will qualify for 5 hours verifiable CPD. Our guest speakers include: Emma Shedlow, Paediatric Occupational Therapist, Therapy in Praxis, Emma works with a range of children who have oral sensory issues and will aim to give delegates a background into the oral sensory issues experienced by children with special needs and an insight into therapies used to help encourage good dietary habits and develop oral hygiene strategies. In addition Emma will also discuss the oral implications of PEG feeding and strategies to encourage good oral care Dr Jenny Harris, Consultant in Community Paediatric Dentistry, Community and Special Care Dentistry, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Dr Harris will discuss communication difficulties and their impact on dental care, with specific reference to children and young people with autism spectrum disorders. She will also describe how her team developed and tested a new chair side communication tool for dentistry. Dr Finlay Sutton, Registered Specialist in Restorative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Periodontics and Endodontics, Garstang Dental Referral Practice in partnership with Dr Gillian Greenwood, Consultant in Special Care Dentistry, City Health Care Partnership CIC Hull Dr Sutton and Dr Greenwood will spend the afternoon looking at some of the restorative challenges presented by adults with additional needs including Oncology patients, patients with Dementia and those with severe learning disabilities. Using a case based presentation format they will look at practical ways in which some of these challenges can be met using a range of prosthetic techniques. 2 Directions Roger Evans Auditorium Yorkshire Sculpture Park Visitors Centre, West Bretton, Wakefield. WF4 4LG. Telephone: Covering 500 acres of parkland, Yorkshire Sculpture Park is located 1 mile from Junction 38 on the M1. 20 miles south of Leeds and 26 miles north of Sheffield. From the North or South Exit the M1 at Junction 38, take the A637 towards Huddersfield, and follow the Yorkshire Sculpture Park brown heritage signs for one mile until you reach a roundabout. At this roundabout, turn left and follow the road through to the YSP car park and Centre. From the East or West Leave the M62 at Junction 29 and take the M1 South towards Wakefield and Sheffield. Exit the M1 at Junction 38, take the A637 towards Huddersfield, and follow the Yorkshire Sculpture Park brown heritage signs for one mile until you reach a roundabout. At this roundabout, turn left and follow the road through to the YSP car park and Centre. By train Wakefield Westgate is the nearest main line station, around 7 miles from YSP. A taxi from the station costs approximately 10. London King's Cross to Wakefield takes around 2 hours. By bus Wakefield Barnsley, Monday Saturday Buses run between Wakefield Bus Station and Barnsley Interchange via West Bretton. Buses stop and depart directly outside the YSP Centre. The current provider is Tates Travel, number 96.
