5 Speakers Biographies Dr Michael O Sullivan Dr. O Sullivan qualified in dentistry from Trinity College Dublin in He completed an MSc in Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute and University of London and Fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Edinburgh (FFD RCSI and FDS RCS(Ed)). He completed specialist training in Restorative Dentistry at the Dublin Dental School and Hospital in 1998 and was awarded FDS (Rest Dent) RCSI. He also completed a PhD in Biochemistry at Trinity College with Professor Keith Tipton in From he completed a Research Fellowship in San Antonio, Texas. He was appointed a Senior Lecturer /Consultant in Restorative Dentistry (Special Dental Needs) in the Dublin Dental School and Hospital, TCD. Dr Peter Fee MBChB MRCP FRCA Dr Peter Fee is a Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist at the Royal Belfast Hospital for sick children. He studied at the University of Edinburgh before moving back to Northern Ireland to complete his specialty training in anaesthetics. He spent a year at Birmingham Children s Hospital prior to obtaining a consultant post in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. His regular work includes anaesthesia for general, dental, orthopaedic and eye surgery as well as MRI scans. Dr Dermot Canavan Dr. Canavan s undergraduate training took place in Dublin Dental University Hospital from where he graduated in He holds a membership in general dental surgery (MGDS) from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh (1987). Dr Canavan completed his post-graduate studies at the University of California in Los Angeles, with a Master s degree in Oral Biology and a clinical certificate in Orofacial pain management (1994). He currently lectures in Orofacial pain management at Dublin Dental University Hospital and also conducts private clinics. Dr Máiréad Harding Dr Máiréad Harding is senior lecturer in dental public health in Cork University Dental School and Hospital, University College Cork (UCC), senior dental surgeon with the Health Service Executive (HSE) and Deputy Director of the Oral Health Services Research Centre, UCC. She is currently the programme coordinator on the Fluoride and Caring for Children s

6 Speakers Biographies Teeth (FACCT) a six-year collaboration between UCC and the HSE dental services with Health Research Board (HRB) funding. Máiréad is a BDS (NUI) graduate of UCC and also obtained her Masters in Dental Public Health (MDPH) and PhD in Dentistry from UCC. Areas of research include fluorides and health, epidemiological measurement and health services research. Professor Gerry Kearns Professor Gerry Kearns is Chair of the Education Committee at the Faculty of Dentistry, RCSI. He is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at St James Hospital and Crumlin Childrens Hospital Dublin, also a Past Dean of the Faculty. Dr Caoimhin Mac Giolla Phadraig Dr. Caoimhin Mac Giolla Phadraig is Assistant Professor in Special Care Dentistry at Dublin Dental School. He is a teacher, researcher and clinical specialist Special Care Dentist. He is also a committed activist for people with disabilities. Dr Mac Giolla Phadraig holds a clinical doctorate in Special Care Dentistry and a PhD focusing on oral health services for people with intellectual disabilities. He teachs on the Postgraduate Diploma in Special Care Dentistry in Trinity College Dublin, with an interest in sedation dentistry for adults with disabilities and phobias. Dr. Paddy Fleming Dr Paddy Fleming graduated BDentSc from Trinity College Dublin and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He holds a Master s degree in Paediatric Dentistry from the University of Minnesota and a Certificate of Higher Training in Paediatric Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is a Consultant and Associate Professor in Paediatric Dentistry at Our Lady s Children s Hospital, Dublin and at the Dublin Dental University Hospital.

7 Speakers Biographies Dr John Walsh Dr. John Walsh is the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, RCSI and is in specialist practice. He is a dual specialist in both paediatric dentistry and orthodontics. He has lectured extensively at home and abroad in the areas of both Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. Dr Paul McNally Paul graduated from the UCD school of Medicine in He completed his paediatric medical training in Ireland and subsequently completed a 2 year MD in Cystic Fibrosis (CF) lung disease in the National Children s Hospital and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Paul undertook fellowship training with paediatric pulmonary program in the Children s Hospital of Philadelphia from 2007 to He was appointed as a consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at Our Lady s Children s Hospital (OLCHC) in In August 2015, Paul was appointed as Associate Professor of Paediatrics at RCSI. Paul is director of the CF centre in OLCHC and leads the CF research group at the National Children s Research Centre (NCRC). Paul is clinical lead for Paediatric Respiratory Medicine in the Dublin Paediatric Hospitals. He is a member of the medical and scientific council of CF Ireland and the Scientific Advisory Committee of the CF Registry of Ireland. Paul is a member of the working group of the National Clinical Programme for Cystic Fibrosis and is a member of the advisory board for the National Clinical Programme for Paediatrics. Paul is a member of the board of the National Children s Research Centre. Dr Carol Blackburn Dr Blackburn graduated from University College Cork in Following completion of her specialist training in Paediatrics in 2010, Dr Blackburn undertook a clinical fellowship in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at the Royal Children s Hospital, Melbourne (RCH). Since 2012, Dr Blackburn has worked as a consultant in Paediatric emergency medicine in Our Lady s Children hospital, Crumlin. Dr Blackburn is current clinical lead for paediatric emergency medicine. Interests include paediatric procedural sedation and clinical guideline development. She is an APLS instructor.
