2 Dental Teaching Hospitals The primary purpose of the dental teaching hospitals is to teach undergraduate dental students and provide their clinical training There is a symbiotic relationship between the Schools of Dentistry and their associated Dental Teaching Hospitals This provides an effective way of teaching a large number of dental students There are seven other large dental schools and dental teaching hospital in England plus one postgraduate school in London. A Dental Care Professional training school in Portsmouth and two small community based schools in Devon-Cornwall and East Lancashire In 2006 there was a move nationally to develop more outreach teaching in the community

3 148 dental chairs at the main Dental Hospital, 7 at Seacroft Hospital and 1 in Bexley wing 22 dental chairs in 3 outreach clinics in Leeds, Bradford and Hull LDI has 31 consultants providing specialist care predominantly for the population of Leeds but also for the wider Yorkshire region

4 Activity 80,000 patient 25,000 attendances are attendances a year plus for treatment with 15,000 attendances at our students ( not subject to three outreach clinics a the 18 week pathway) total of 95,000 In addition the LDI attendances a year performs treatment under Of the 80,000 seen at LDI, GA each year for 1,000 14,500 are new referrals children and 750 adults and 40,000 follow up undergoing oral surgery attendances (mostly for procedures treatment)
