5 Speakers Biographies Dr. Sally Ann Lynch Dr. Sally Ann Lynch is a consultant Clinical Geneticist at Our Lady s Hospital, Crumlin, Children s University Hospital, Temple Street, National Rare Diseases Office, MMUH. Dr. Lynch s research interests are in rare diseases. Her group has had success in the identification of several rare disease genes and developed simple cost-effective genetic tests, which have been translated into the diagnostic laboratory. Dr. Lynch also has an interest in education using new technologies and has been involved in the development of a microsite, which contains information for use by Health care professionals on common genetic topics. Her group has developed twenty five animation videos on consanguinity, inheritance patterns and chromosomal translocations and inversions. The American College of Paediatrics uses one of the videos and a further two are used by Unique, the Rare chromosome support group ( Dr. Lynch has been awarded two research grants recently, one to estimate the incidence of Rare Disorders in a cohort of children born in the year 2000 (from Temple street Foundation) and a second grant to review the cardiac variants identified in families seen with inherited cardiac disorders through the National Children s Research Centre (NCRC). Prof. Chris Lynch Professor Chris Lynch is a UCC BDS graduate (1999). Following time working in general practice and junior hospital posts, he commenced specialist training in Restorative Dentistry at Cork Dental Hospital in He completed his specialist training and passed the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship Examination in Restorative Dentistry (FDS Rest Dent) in He was appointed a Senior Lecturer and Consultant in Restorative Dentistry in Cardiff in 2006, where he has worked for the past 10+ years. Professor Lynch successfully defended his PhD, on aspects of the microstructural arrangements within human enamel, in He has published widely, including 140 papers on subjects such as dental education, clinical dentistry, treatment outcomes, pulp biology and dental materials. He has a special interest in minimally invasive dentistry, in particular, in the use of posterior composites, and has published a textbook Successful Posterior Composites as part of the Quintessentials series. While at Cardiff, Professor Lynch has served as Head of Prosthodontics teaching since He has also been Head of the Learning & Scholarship Department for 3.5 years. In 2013, he was promoted to a Readership by Cardiff University, and in 2015 he received a promotion to Professor of Restorative Dentistry & Dental Education. Since 2011, Professor Lynch has served as Editor-in- Chief of the Journal of Dentistry - the leading international journal in the field of restorative dentistry (impact factor 3.109). He has received recognitions such as the Award of Excellence in Dental Education from the Association for Dental Education in Europe (2014), British Endodontic Society Research Award (2010), British Dental Editors Forum Young Writers Award (2009) and the British Society for the Study of Prosthetic Dentistry Research Award (2004). He has been recognised with/awarded ad eundem Fellowships from the Academy of Dental Materials (FADM, 2015), the Faculty of General Dental Practice (FFGDP, 2013) and the American College of Dentists (FACD, 2011).

6 Speakers Biographies Dr. David Finucane Dr. Finucane qualified from Trinity College Dublin in He was awarded FFD RCSI in 1994, and MSc Children s Dentistry (Paedodontics) from University of London In 1999 he was admitted to Specialist List for Paediatric Dentistry (GDC, UK). Over the course of his career, Dr Finucane has worked in Public Health Dentistry in Ireland and UK; and Hospital-based Paediatric Dentistry in Dublin, Belfast, London, Sydney, and Manchester. He has extensive, international, teaching experience, having taught Paediatric Dentistry to Undergrads and Postgrads in Ireland, UK, and Australia. He has published several papers in international, peer-reviewed journals. He is a reviewer for several international, peerreviewed journals. He has held the positions of Secretary ( , ) and President ( ) of the Irish Society of Dentistry for Children. He was a member of European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry workshop (Guideline Development Group), which produced the recent guideline document: Best clinical guidance for management of early caries lesions in children and young adults: an EAPD policy document. Eur Arch Paediatric Dent 2016; 17: Dr Finucane is currently in Practice Limited to Paediatric Dentistry at Hermitage Medical Clinic, Dublin, and is a Part-time Clinical Teacher at Dublin Dental University Hospital. Dr. Peter Cowan Dr. Cowan qualified from Trinity College Dublin in He was awarded FDSRCS (Edin) in 1983 and FFDRCSIrel in Restorative Dentistry in He is a specialist oral surgeon and runs a clinical practice in Dublin limited to minor oral surgery with a special interest in implant dentistry and fixed prosthodontics. He is a senior lecturer, examiner and coordinator of examinations for the Faculty of Dentistry. Dr. Cowan is a former Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, RCSI and was the Faculty s CEO until his retirement earlier this year. Dr Michael O Sullivan Dr. O Sullivan qualified in dentistry from Trinity College Dublin in He completed an MSc in Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute and University of London and Fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Edinburgh (FFD RCSI and FDS RCS(Ed)). He completed specialist training in Restorative Dentistry at the Dublin Dental School and Hospital in 1998 and was awarded FDS (Rest Dent) RCSI. He also completed a PhD in Biochemistry at Trinity College with Professor Keith Tipton in From he completed a Research Fellowship in San Antonio, Texas. He was appointed a Senior Lecturer /Consultant in Restorative Dentistry (Special Dental Needs) in the Dublin Dental School and Hospital, TCD in 2001.He was the Clinical Director of the DDUH from He is currently The Director of Teaching and Learning (Postgraduate) for the School of Dentistry and The Director of Graduate Prosthodontics. He is also the Chairperson of the Irish Committee for Specialist Training in Dentistry and sits on the Education and Training Committee of the Dental Council.

7 Speakers Biographies Dr. Dympna Daly Dr. Daly qualified from the University of Dublin, Trinity College; after some time in General Practice she completed her Master s Degree in Paediatric Dentistry in the University of Minnesota. She taught part-time in the Dublin University Dental School for a number of years and is currently in Private Practice limited to Paediatric Dentistry in Galway City. She has a particular interest in the area of Prevention of oral disease in Children. Ms. Catherine Waldron Ms. Catherine Waldron lecturers in dentistry and health promotion, with extensive clinical experience and enthusiasm for empowering patients to improve and maintain their oral health. She has a Masters by Research on the topic of Communication Skills in the dental setting and a Masters in Health Promotion on the topic of Smoking Cessation in the dental setting. She is currently studying full time for a PhD in Special Care Dentistry. Dr. Lorna Dobbyn Dr. Lorna Dobbyn-Ross is a Consultant Orthodontist at Galway University Hospitals. She qualified from Trinity College Dental School in 2001 where she was made a Trinity Scholar in Following house officer and specialist registrar posts at the Dental schools in Belfast and Dundee, she completed her MOrth at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. An FTTA post followed at Glasgow Dental School where she completed the ISFE exam in Orthodontics leading to the FDS (Orth). She has completed a Master s degree on cleft outcomes and published a number of papers on this subject. Dr. Paul McCabe Dr. Paul McCabe is a registered Endodontic Specialist in the UK. He is a member of the Irish Dental Association, the Irish Endodontic Society and is a certified member of the European Society of Endodontology. He is based at the Oranhill Dental Suite, Old Limerick Rd., Oranmore. His practice is limited to endodontics. Dr. Jane Renehan Dr. Jane Renehan is an Independent Consultant in Dental Compliance and Regulation. Following qualification from Trinity College in 1980 Jane worked exclusively in the Public Dental Sector. In the mid-1990s she returned to the Dublin Dental University Hospital for 5 years taking up the full-time position of Lecturer in Dental Public Health while studying for both an M.Dent.Sc. and an MBA at the Smurfit Business School, UCD. In 2017, Jane left the HSE after almost 20 years in the role of Principal Dental Surgeon and established Dental Compliance Ltd which provides dental practices with a customised support service in complying with clinical regulations. Jane is one of three IDA delegates to the Council of European Dentists (CED) where she is Chairperson of the Working Group on Dental Materials and Medical Devices; she also serves on the Working Group for Infection Control and Waste Management. She is a Past President of the IDA HSE group and is a Trustee of the IDU. Jane s areas of compliance expertise include Radiation Protection, Infection Control, Practice Governance, Patient Safety and Quality Assurance. Her company s strategy is to simplify compliance for dental practices by taking the hassle out of regulation.
