2 Lecture COURSE TOPICS Issues and principles in managing the fresh extraction socket Issues and principles related to immediate implant placement Techniques in Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) Other bone augmentation techniques in mild to moderate bone deficient areas Hands-on Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) including socket preservation techniques Simultaneous Implant Placement with GBR Techniques Harvesting of block grafts from chin and ascending ramus grafts and grafts fixation Autologous harvesting of particulate bone Harvesting autologous bone from other sites including anterior nasal spine and tuberosity Sinus lift surgery lateral window approach Flap design and closure Anatomical dissection and identification of vital structures GOAL The objective of the course is to familiarize participants in the various options available for bone augmentation as well as given the opportunity to perform more complex grafting procedures such as bone augmentation from the chin/ramus area and sinus lift surgery. COMPLETION After the course, participants should be able to understand and perform basic techniques with bone grafting. This includes socket preservation and guided bone regeneration. In addition, they will be familiar with harvesting autogenous bone from the jaws. TRAINER Dr Winston Tan Dr Tan received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1992 and his Masters of Dental Surgery (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) in 1997 from the National University of Singapore.

3 TRAINER Dr Winston Tan Dr Tan received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1992 and his Masters of Dental Surgery (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) in 1997 from the National University of Singapore. He was assistant professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore from 1997 to During his tenure at NUS, he spent time at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, where he conducted research on an overseas attachment scholarship. At present, he is Director and Senior Consultant of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at Alexandra Hospital and Jurong Medical Centre, Singapore. He also maintains a private practice restricted to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre, Singapore. Dr Tan is also a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and the Academy of Medicine Singapore. At time of writing, he is the Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Chapter of Dental Surgeons Singapore and sits on the AO Foundation s AOCMF Asia Pacific Board as its Singapore representative. He has conducted many workshops and lectures on implant dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery, both in Singapore and internationally. His current clinical work encompasses oral implantology, dentoalveolar surgery, maxillofacial trauma, orthognathic surgery and management of oral pathology.
