2 Vision Loss Worldwide Key facts. 285 million people are estimated to be visually impaired worldwide: 39 million are blind and 246 have low vision. About 90% of the world's visually impaired live in lowincome settings. 82% of people living with blindness are aged 50 and above. - World Health Organization, 2017

3 Blindness in the United States It is estimated that about 1.3 million people in the U.S. are legally blind. Legal blindness: Central visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye with the best possible correction A visual field of 20 degrees or less. National Federation of the Blind, 2017

4 BLINDNESS IN THE US More than 3.4 million (3%) Americans aged 40 years and older are either legally blind. Legally Blind is having visual acuity of 20/200 or worse, a visual field of less than 20 degrees. Visually impaired is having VA of 20/40 or less. 6 American Children with Vision Loss According to the 2015 Annual Report from the American Printing House for the Blind (APH), there are approximately 61,739 US children in educational settings who are legally blind.

7 Cataracts in the US Cataracts affect more than 24.4 million Americans age 40 and older. By age 75, approximately half of all Americans have cataracts. American Academy of Ophthalmology 2017
