23 Happens when the blood vessels to the heart are occluded or clogged and oxygen delivery to the constantly contracting heart muscle is diminished or absent. During the heart attach the muscle dies due to lack of oxygen. One third of the individuals with heart disease die from Atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is more commonly known as clogging, narrowing, and/or hardening of the arteries. (plaque, fatty material includes cholesterol and build up in damages or stressed parts of the artery by hypertension(stress, high blood pressure, etc.). Atherosclerosis contributes to stroke.
