3 Techniques and Tips Develpment f the Tw Sund Levels with the Hands The HH, SD and BD are the three basic drum set cmpnents used in the funk drumming style. Understanding hw these vices interact is an imprtant key t building a pwerful vcabulary. 4 Practice and Perfrmance Tips Tw sund levels shuld be used in all eercises, grves, and fills. Accented ntes = mff (8" 12") Nn-accented ntes (ghsted) = pppp (12") The rim sht is an imprtant part f the funk sund. The stick strikes the rim and center f the drumhead simultaneusly. Striking the center f the drumhead prduces the biggest sund. Additinal rim sht sunds can be prduced by using ther areas f the drum. The dynamic cntrast in these tw sunds shuld be that f a whisper t a shut. The LFHH shuld be played with the heel up, as this prduces a shrter and much mre defined chick sund than with the heel dwn n the ftbard. T build endurance and grvability, yu shuld strive t be able t play each pattern, sustaining intensity fr five minutes withut stpping. In the initial stages f develpment, practice the patterns slwly. This technique allws yu t watch each nte as it ges by and then make any adjustments necessary fr accurate eecutin.
