2 ABOUT OBESITY & DIABETES 2018 The Obesity & Diabetes 2018 aims to focus on the clinical aspects of diabetes and to update the attendees with the current knowledge and understanding of the treatment of diabetes and its complications. We have come forward with this Obesity & Diabetes Congress is going to be held on May 14-16, 2018 at Melbourne, Australia by Cenetri Publishing Group and this will encompass a variety of up-to-date knowledge on diabetes and metabolism. SCOPE AND IMPORTANCE Diabetes is increasing in epidemic proportions worldwide. In India alone, more than 68 million people have Diabetes. The need of the hour is to empower Health Care providers with Basic and Advanced Diabetes Care expertise for better management of Diabetes and its associated complications. Diabetes prevalence has been rising more rapidly in middle- and lowincome countries and is a major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stroke and lower limb amputation. Number of people with diabetes has risen from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in Among adults, prevalence of diabetes, over 18 years of age has risen from 4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014Almost half of all deaths attributable to high blood glucose occur before the age of 70 years. WHO projects that diabetes will be the seventh leading cause of death in 2030.

3 GLOBAL OBESITY AND DIABETES REPORT: Today, more than one in two adults and nearly one in six children are overweight or obese in the OECD area. The share of children who are overweight or obese at age 15 ranges from 10% in Denmark to 31% in the United States. across the OECD, 19.5% of the adult population was obese (Figure 1). This rate ranges from less than 6% in Korea and Japan to more than 30% in Hungary, New Zealand, Mexico and the United States. More than one in four adults is obese in Australia, Canada, Chile, South Africa and the United Kingdom. Diabetes is on the rise. No longer a disease of predominantly rich nations, the prevalence of diabetes is steadily increasing everywhere, most markedly in the world s middle-income countries. According to the Lancet study, China, India and USA are among the top three countries with a high number of diabetic population. While the numbers climbed from 20.4 million in China in 1980 to million in 2014, the rise has been equally dramatic in India from 11.9 million in 1980 to 64.5 million in India. Prevalence of diabetes has more than doubled for men in India and China (3.7 per cent to 9.1 per cent in India and 3.5 per cent to 9.9 per cent in China). It has also increased by 50 per cent among women in China (5.0 per cent to 7.6 per cent) and 80 per cent among women in India (4.6 per cent to 8.3 per cent).
