2 Strategic Plan Overview The reason we exist is to bring hope where there is none Help connect people with resources to overcome challenges brought on by Epilepsy Enable people to improve their quality of life Focus on the people and you can t go wrong Expand services for people with epilepsy and others affected Enlarge geographical reach within Illinois and grow impact Enable organizational vitality and financial sustainability Right now, over 250,000 individuals have epilepsy in affiliate territory. By 2020, another 15,000+ will be diagnosed Support those in need and prepare for those who will need 2 A strong organization ensures a future of hope.
3 Objectives and Strategies Overview Objective: Stop seizures and SUDEP, find a cure, and overcome the challenges created by epilepsy through efforts including access to care, education, advocacy and research to accelerate ideas into therapies. Strategies 1. Provide comprehensive information on epilepsy, available therapies, providers and services to individuals, families and healthcare professionals online and in local communities. 2. Provide support services and promote opportunities to build communities and exchange of knowledge and experience statewide, online, and through local activities and partnerships. 3. Enable organizational vitality as part of an effective state and nationwide network for epilepsy to effectively execute our mission and strategic goals. 4. Build and expand a culture of philanthropy that maximizes collaborative fundraising and partnerships to allow us to grow our capacity to better serve our community. 5. Increase awareness of epilepsy and of the Epilepsy Foundation among the general public and individuals and families living with epilepsy. 6. Provide and expand access to Specialized Care Our Objective and Strategies align with national EF office. 3
4 Strategy #1 Education Provide comprehensive information on epilepsy, available therapies, providers and services to individuals, families and healthcare professionals online and in local communities. Priority Activities A. Enhance our digital platform including online web, mobile, webinar, and social media resources and tools to increase geographic reach and educate targeted audiences. B. Build partnerships with professional organizations and publications to foster the exchange of relevant information. C. Build outreach of Epilepsy Foundation resources with the professional community. D. Promote and increase the reach and utilization of our statewide support resources. E. Ensure consistency and accuracy of information throughout the network and epilepsy community. 4 Education will directly improve the lives of people with epilepsy.

Priority Activities A. Establish coordinated state policy priorities and mobilize advocates regarding public health, access to care, and regulatory issues pertaining to epilepsy. B. Create structures through which individuals can come together to raise awareness, raise funds, and provide mentoring and other services to the community. C. Provide local and online support to bereaved families. 6 We need direct, quality interactions with more individuals.

8 Strategy #3 Organizational Vitality Enable organizational vitality as part of an effective state and nationwide network for epilepsy to effectively execute our mission and strategic goals. Priority Activities A. Evaluate our structure, partnerships, operating standards, policies, and local presence and revise as necessary to allow us to be most effective in carrying out our mission. B. Track, evaluate, and benchmark program outcomes, efficacy, and best practices across the state and implement solutions to meet needs for information, collaboration, and best practice exchange. C. Establish a strong, geographically diverse Board of Directors with active leadership core, committees, and volunteers. D. Obtain and maintain a three year CARF accreditation E. Develop a stronger Affiliate presence in Peoria, Rock Island, and LaSalle. 8 A strong organization is the foundation for epilepsy support.

10 Strategy #4 Financial Foundation Build and expand a culture of philanthropy that maximizes collaborative fundraising and partnerships to allow us to grow our capacity to better serve our community. Priority Activities A. Create coordinated donor development and stewardship processes Affiliate wide. B. Provide Board, staff and participating partners with necessary resources to implement seamless fundraising integration, including consistent donor communication, cultivation, acquisition, and stewardship practices. C. Build a comprehensive affiliate wide strategy to excite donors about the future of new therapies and research in epilepsy. D. Maintain and encourage opportunities for local empowerment and innovation and foster exchange of best practices in fundraising across the network. E. Promote and expand current programs to ensure future funding. 10 Financial sustainability enables service expansion.

12 Strategy #5 Awareness Increase awareness of epilepsy and of the Epilepsy Foundation among the general public and individuals and families living with epilepsy. Priority Activities A. Develop comprehensive public awareness campaigns and messaging to elevate the visibility of epilepsy and the Epilepsy Foundation mission and vision. B. Raise awareness of mortality in epilepsy for people and families affected. C. Expand the outreach and awareness of the Foundation s education, advocacy and support services to increase the number of people served across the Affiliate. D. Build awareness of available epilepsy pharmaceuticals, devices, dietary, and diagnostic therapies to individuals, families, and medical professionals. 12 We need to be active in our communities.

Provide access with Epilepsy Sub-specialist (Epileptologist) through community based EF office C. Have technology to access Epileptologist in rural community. D. Provide community based RN support. E. Provide access to transportation/transportation funding. F. Provide access to medication/medication funding. G. Ensure access/linkage to Mental Health Provider. H. Provide education to community partners (social services, faith based, law enforcement, school). 14 We need to be active in our communities.
