1 Day 1: Rules & Signal Formations Unit 1: Basic Games and Jump Rope Week 2 Week 5 02/21-03/16 Day 2: Space Awareness/ Movement Lesson Objectives: Students review expectations of a PE class including; how to enter and exit activity area and start/stop commands. Fitness Components: - Agility and locomotion Lesson focus: Principles of Communication Safe Participation in Physical Activity Example Activities: PE introduction Students review rules and regulations of the Physical Education program at Kang Chiao. - Parachute activities Health Education Concepts: Demonstrates warm-up & cool down relative to the cardio-respiratory fitness assessment. Day 3: Beep Test Lesson Objectives: -Students record how many intervals they can run without missing two beeps in a row -Students learn how to count and record the fitness testing - Students choose a partner and line up on opposite lines (20 m apart) - The test involves running continuously between two points that are 20 m apart from side to side. Example Activities: Beep Test Assessments: A component of the 30% Fitness testing Assessment Day 5: Jump Rope Partner work & Tricks Lesson Objectives: Students review technique of jump rope. Students learn partner work with long jump ropes Fitness Components: High Cardio Warm Up Game Lesson focus: Technique and timing with long rope Example Activities: 3-person jumping, various skipping tricks Assessments: Participation 15%- Game Play Rubric Lesson Objectives: Students review the concepts of personal space and how to move safely around the playing area. Fitness Components: - Agility and locomotion Lesson focus: Concepts of Time and Space and Locomotor Skills -Uses the space available and moves into open spaces Example Activities: Activities that recognizes the concept of open spaces in a movement context. Students learn the differences between open space and personal space while moving in the play area. Day 4: Jump Rope Introduction and Sit-Ups Test Lesson Objectives: Students learn how to take out and put away rope, safety of jumping with others around and the standing and jumping technique while skipping Fitness Components: Sit ups test #1 A test of abdominal strength Students do as many sit ups for one minute while a partner counts their reps Lesson focus: Safety and technique of jump rope Example Activities: Teacher directed follow the leader and jumping and landing activities Day 6: Jump Rope for Fitness Lesson Objectives: Students learn how to move while jumping with the jump rope. Fitness Components: High Cardio Warm Up Game Lesson focus: Skipping on the move Example Activities: Jump rope circuits -Students jump while running in a team relay Assessments: Participation 15%- Game Play Rubric
2 Day 1: Introduction to Dribbling Unit 2: Basketball Week 6 Week 9 03/19-04/13 Day 2: Passing in Basketball Lesson Objectives: Students review about basic basketball concepts and learn how to travel properly during a basketball game. Fitness Components: Running laps around the gym to music. Students concentrate on pacing and running safely Lesson focus: Correct and safe technique of dribbling with both the right and the left hands Example Activities: Follow the leader and Keep Away Health Education: Nutrition and the relationship with the food we eat. What are moderation foods? Day 3: Basketball Shooting Lesson Objectives: Students review how to shoot a basketball. Students learn B.E.E.F principles to help them shoot with one hand Fitness Components: - Dribbling Shuttles Lesson focus: Strength and shooting at the 8ft basketball net. Students learn the concept of Net ball using the foam ball Example Activities: Netball lead up activities emphasis on passing to open players down the floor Day 5: Basketball Testing Lesson Objectives: Students are tested on their passing while on the move and stationary shooting Fitness Components: Laps around the gym Lesson focus: Testing Example Activities: Net ball Lead-Up Game and passing testing Lesson Objectives: Students review how to use twohands to throw a chest/bounce with a partner Fitness Components: Running laps around the gym to music. Students concentrate on pacing and running safely Lesson focus: Correct passing techniques. Introduction to longer passes like baseball throw and overhead passes Example Activities: Dribbling and passing to get to the basket. Shooting with a basketball -Card Sharks for competitive passing relays Day 4: Modified Basketball Shooting Lesson Objectives: Students review shooting and passing. Students pass up and down the floor at a moving partner Fitness Components: - Passing Relays Lesson focus: Give and go s, passing in front to a moving partner, target hands and shooting on the move Example Activities: Netball lead up activities emphasis on passing to open players down the floor Day 6: Basketball Testing Lesson Objectives: Students are tested on their passing while on the move and stationary shooting Fitness Components: Laps around the gym Lesson focus: Testing Example Activities: Net ball Lead-Up Game and passing testing
3 Day 1: Flag Tag and Throwing Technique Unit 3: Ultimate Frisbee Week 10 Week 13 04/16-05/11 Day 2: Passing and Receiving Lesson Objectives: Students play lead up Frisbee games as an introduction to the formal sport of Ultimate Fitness Components: - Flag Tag and other high cardio warm up games Lesson focus: Students will review using flags and belts. Students review how to grip and stance while holding a Frisbee Example Activities: Flag Tag -Review disc throwing and moving into open spaces Health Education: Identifies areas of Improvement from prior testing and with teacher assistance, identifies strategies for progress Day 3: Offensive and Defensive Play Lesson Objectives: -Students review the basic concepts of Ultimate Frisbee with modified rules and equipment Fitness Components: - Students do a warm ups Lesson focus: Ultimate Concepts, defensive techniques and Space Awareness. Example Activities: Ultimate Football in teams. If successful progress to using a Frisbee in Game Play Day 5: Ultimate Frisbee Game Play Lesson Objectives: Students demonstrate their understanding on how to play Ultimate while testing and playing a modified Ultimate Game Fitness Components: - Students will do a warm up Lesson focus: Throwing and Catching a Frisbee with a partner stationary and on the move Example Activities: Testing & Ultimate Football Lesson Objectives: -Students review stationary passing and now attempt to move down the floor -Students learn how to pass to an open space and how to defend passes thrown. Fitness Components: - Review Fitness Testing (Standing Long Jump and Sit and Reach) Lesson focus: Passing and defending Drills and focus on personal space provided when throwing the frisbee. Example Activities: Small-sided activities that include a defender putting pressure on the passer. -Monkey in the Middle and 2 vs. 1 Day 4: Offensive and Defensive Play Lesson Objectives: -Students work together to complete a series of passing sequences down the field Fitness Components: - Students will do a warm up Lesson focus: Groups of players strive to complete several passes in succession flow = a string of continuous passes down the field. Example Activities: Movement activities and Ultimate Football in teams Day 6: Ultimate Frisbee Game Play Lesson Objectives: Students demonstrate their understanding on how to play Ultimate while testing and playing a modified Ultimate Game Fitness Components: - Students will do a warm up Lesson focus: Throwing and Catching a Frisbee with a partner stationary and on the move Example Activities: Testing & Ultimate Football
4 Day 1: Balance and Teamwork Unit 4: Elementary Gymnastics Week 14 Week 15 05/14-05/25 Day 2: Balance Stations Lesson Objectives: Students will review balance components taught last semester and apply them to the balance beam Fitness Components: Stretching and holding yogalike positions while maintaining balance Lesson focus: Listening to safety cues and focus on core muscles while attempting balance positions Example Activities: Balancing on lines, maintaining one foot balances while changing directions Day 3: Tumbling Lesson Objectives: Students learn the basic concepts of tumbling. Students learn how to log roll and barrel roll Fitness Components: Stretching and holding yogalike positions while maintaining balance Lesson focus: Splitting the class in thirds, travel, jumping and tumbling.students learn how to tumble with teacher assisting -Students begin trying out various sequence routines provided by the teacher Health Education: Discusses the importance of hydration and hydration choices relative to physical activities. Lesson Objectives: Students apply balance positions into creating synchronized balance routines with partners Fitness Components: Curl Ups and jumping jacks Lesson focus: Creating a synchronized balance routine with a group Example Activities: Station 1: Bean Bag Balance Station 2: Intro to tumbling with teacher support Day 4: Tumbling and Routines Lesson Objectives: Students demonstrate balance routines to class and continue reviewing and learning tumbling with teacher s support Fitness Components: High cardio warm up activities emphasizing whistle cues Lesson focus: Review safety while tumbling and practice tumbling techniques -Students put together their own sequences using the elementary gymnastics concepts learnt. Students practice the travel, balance, jump routines and present to the teacher Formative Assessment: Routines
5 Unit 5: Ball Hockey & Testing Week /28-06/15 Day 1: Beep Test Day 2: Station Testing Lesson Objectives: -Students record how many intervals they can run without missing two beeps in a row -Students learn how to count and record the fitness testing - Students choose a partner and line up on opposite lines (20 m apart) - The test involves running continuously between two points that are 20 m apart from side to side. Example Activities: Beep Test Assessments: A component of the 30% Fitness testing Assessment Day 3: Stick Handling Lesson Objectives: Introduction to Floor Hockey Brief History, Rules & Regulations and Overview Students learn how to properly grip the hockey stick and how to move with the puck Fitness Components: Students will do shuttle runs while controlling the hockey stick while they run Lesson focus: Stick Handling, puck control and grip Example Activities: Red light Green light -Weave and Shoot & Follow the Leader Day 5: Passing & Receiving Lesson Objectives: Students review stick handling and passing to a stationary partner Fitness Components: Laps around the 2 nd Floor and Lesson focus: Students practice controlling the puck while passing to a target Students practice absorbing the pass with control Example Activities: Accuracy Pass Drill -Wall Passing and Receiving -Stick handling and pass/shot at target drill/relay Lesson Objectives: In groups, students answer a variety of questions concerning the lessons taught this semester. Fitness Components: n/a Lesson focus: Multiple Choice Questions on PE related material Example Activities: Stations with sport equipment to help students answer various PE-related questions Assessments: Written test on cognitive knowledge of sports learnt. 10% of Final Score Day 4: Stick Handling & Passing Lesson Objectives: Students review how to properly grip the hockey stick and how to move with the puck Students learn how to pass the puck to another stationary teammate across the floor Fitness Components: Students will do shuttle runs while controlling the hockey stick while they run Lesson focus: Stick control while passing and receiving by absorbing the puck Example Activities: Musical Pucks Drill - Stationary partner passing Drills Day 6: Shooting & Movement with Puck Lesson Objectives: Students learn how to shoot at an empty goal. Students review the proper technique while passing/shooting and how to follow through Fitness Components: Laps around the 2 nd Floor and Lesson focus: Students learn how to shoot while standing in front of the goal and learn how to shoot a forehand shot Example Activities: Pass and Shoot Drill Competition Health Education Concepts: Charts participation in physical activities outside physical education class.
6 Unit 5: Pickleball Week /19-06/29 Day 1: Introduction to Pickle ball Day 2: Technique and Striking Lesson Objectives: Students learn about pickle ball and how to grip the paddle. Fitness Components: Running Laps around playing area Lesson focus: Safety, rules, grip introduction of the Forehand swing Example Activities: Demo of grip and paddle control, single player juggling (face and back) Day 3: Sending and Receiving Lesson Objectives: Students review basic forehand technique and ready position in Pickle ball. Students try to keep the ball going over the net Fitness Components: Shuttle Runs Lesson focus: Cooperative play hitting to a partner over the net continuously Example Activities: Net drills and partner passing Lesson Objectives: Students learn how to use a forehand in Pickle Ball Fitness Components: Fitness Circuit Lesson focus: Forehand Technique and ready position while waiting for the ball Example Activities: Paddle juggling, partner pass & catch with and without the net Day 4: Pickle Ball Game Play Lesson Objectives: Students learn the serve and how to get a point in Pickle Ball Fitness Components: Tag Game Lesson focus: Ready position and the serve Example Activities: Small-sided lead-up Pickle ball games Health Education Concepts: Describes & compares the positive social interactions when engaged in partner, small-group and large-group physical activities.
