1 ESHE 150 FUNDAMENTALS OF ATHETIC TRAINING OBSERVATION PACKET Fall 2010
2 Guided Observation Booklet General Information 1. This book is designed to help you take a more active role in your practical experience. 2. It is designed for you to take notes in and write down thoughts. You must turn this in when you turn in your complete packet, because it has signatures in it, and it serves as documentation 3. Each guided observation (EXCEPT for the supply knowledge observations) must be typed in paragraph form. Your grade will be based upon thoroughness of your observations and your response. See an example response on the next page. 4. All observations are due on or before December 8, 2010 by 2pm; you can turn them in early if you want to do so after you complete your observation.
3 Guided observation example: Assume that the following was your guided observation task: Ask the athletic training student assigned to this sport the following question(s): a. What is your name and where are you from? b. How much water do the player s drink in a typical practice and how many water breaks do they typically get? c. What are 2 of the major nerves in the arm and what muscles do they innervate? d. Tell me how much studying you do for athletic training courses in a typical week. You observation book might look like this: However, your typed paragraph should look something like this: The athletic training student that I talked to was Angela Mickle. She told me that she is an air force brat but considers herself to be from Las Cruces, NM, since that is where she went to high school. When I asked her how much water the athletes drink she told me that most of a 5 gallon cooler is gone by the end of practice. Typically, the athletes are given about 3 breaks every day, although it depends on how long practice is. Angela told me that 2 of the majors nerves in the arm are the axillary nerve, which innervates the deltoid muscle and the musculocutaneous nerve which innervates the major flexors of elbow (the Biceps for example). When I asked her how much studying she does for athletic training courses in a typical week she said a lot!. She then said about hours per week, more if there is a test.
