1 Competition Brief Competition title and level Fitness Instructor/Coach Entry requirements Competitors must be at least 16 years of age on 1 September 2015 to be eligible to compete, there is no upper age limit as we encourage re-skilling. Gym Instructing/ coaching entries must be registered with an Awarding Organisation on an appropriate and relevant Certificate in Fitness Instructing (gym-based exercise) or BTEC in Sport. Competition outline Competitors plan and instruct a 30-minute gym induction. This is delivered to someone who is not previously known to them. Both the plan and session are judged on the day. The detail Plan a gym induction for an 18 year old new gym user. The participant is generally fit and active and has been to a gym once or twice a few years ago but doesn t really know how to use any equipment. (30 min). You need to bring a client on the day which will be swapped with another competitor s client. Equipment that can be used includes: Resistance machines: Squat machine Bicep Curl Tricep Press Abdominal Crunch Lat Pull down Chest Press Seated Row Seated Leg Extension Seated Leg Curl
2 Shoulder Press Cardiovascular equipment: Rower Treadmill Matrix Cross trainer - Matrix Exercise Bike - Matrix Mats Free weights/other equipment: Dumbbells and barbell Kettlebells, medicine balls, Swiss ball. Marking and assessment Each judging criteria is marked out of 10 according to the following table. 0 CRITERIA NOT DEMONSTRATED 1 EXTREMELY POOR 2 VERY POOR 3 POOR 4 SLIGHTLY BELOW ACCEPTABLE STANDARD 5 ADEQUATE OR ACCEPTABLE 6 SLIGHTLY ABOVE ACCEPTABLE STANDARD 7 GOOD 8 VERY GOOD 9 EXCELLENT 10 OUTSTANDING HAS THE X-FACTOR Competition rules Competition criteria has been written for the above categories to align with the relevant National Occupational Standard descriptors and to complement qualifications that exist in each of the areas. Feedback from employers and research has also been used i n the design of the competition. A maximum of 2 entries per Campus.
3 All successful applicants must be able to attend Coleg Gwent Usk Campus on 5 th April 2017 for the Welsh Skills Final. The closing date for entry is 28 th February 2017 Program cards put be submitted by midnight along with your client of choice PAR-Q and informed consent completed. All successful applicants will need to bring a client with them on the day. This client will then be swapped with other competitors. This client cannot be a Lecturer of Sport. The competition is open to any full or part-time student of the institution they represent. Competitors must be at least 16 years of age on 1 September 2015 to be eligible to compete but there is no upper age limit as we encourage re-skilling. Gym Instructing/ coaching entries must be registered with an Awarding Organisation on an appropriate and relevant Certificate in Fitness Instructing (gym-based exercise) or BTEC in Sport. If you are unsure of competitor eligibility for the category, please check with the competition organisers. Competitors may have achieved the qualification noted above (at the entering institution) during the competition but they must not have achieved the qualification on or before 1st September 2015, either at the same institution or with an alternative provider at any time. Competitors studying for a higher education qualification in an exercise and fitness related qualification may enter the Personal Trainer competition with World skills ONLY and cannot enter this competition. If on/before Tuesday 1 March 2016 the competitor has completed a Certificate in Fitness Instruction (gym-based exercise) or equivalent and then started studying a Certificate in Personal Training or equivalent then they will not be eligible to enter the Gym Instructing competition and may only enter the World skills Personal Training competition.
