THE STAIR ASSISTANT

Minimalistic, active, Norwegian design AssiStep is an aid if you feel unsteady when climbing up and down the stairs in your own home or elsewhere. Finally I can climb my stairs again! - man who suffered a stroke An innovative and already proven product, which is discreetly mounted in the staircase to provide freedom to move as you want, when you want to. It keeps you active and gives you confidence in your everyday life. AssiStep consists of a handrail that is installed on the wall along the stairs and a handle that you move along the handrail. If you fall or lose balance the handle will lock and support you.

Stay independent Many people, for various reasons, have difficulty climbing stairs. And falling on the staircase can be very dangerous. There are many who face challenges with climbing stairs, that can benefit from the AssiStep. Climbing stairs is effective to maintain walking function, and is an excellent form of exercise. - Occupational Therapist It is estimated that every year 600,000 germans need medical attention from injuries caused by falling in the staircase. With AssiStep you get the confidence and safety you need to move freely in your home. In addition, it helps to keep your body strong and healthy, which is important to live a long and independent life.

How to use AssiStep The AssiStep is a mechanical device, giving you control of the pace and movement. Walking with the AssiStep in the stairs is simple, you just need to do one thing at a time. View the description and illustration to the right or visit to watch our instruction video. Up At you can find your nearest available test location. When climbing up the stairs, hold the lower part of the handle. (1) Push the handle forward and upwards until your arms are fully outstretched. (2) Take a step up the stairs. (3) Repeat the prosess for every step you take. When weight is applied on the handle or it is pulled back, the handle will lock and prevent you from falling. Down When descending the staircase, use the upper part of the handle. (1) Tilt the outer edge of the handle slightly up. (2) While tilting, push it in front of you and down the stairs until your arms are fully stretched out. (3) Release the tilting motion, and take a step down. The handle locks automatically when released or weight is applied. Remember not to crouch your back! Up Down

Folding the handle When the handle is not in use, it folds easily to the side. This is done by pressing the orange button and pushing the handle to the side. In that way, the AssiStep will not occupy space in your staircase. When folding the handle back, it will be locked automatic and are ready to use immediately. The rail protrudes 10cm from the wall, following traditional construction measurements. When the handle is folded, it will protrude 18cm from the wall. Normally, the railing will extend beyond the staircase, it will therefore not obstruct normal use of the staircase

Ergonomic grip 1 2 The handle is ergonomically designed with two heights. This way the height is suitable both on the way up and down the stairs. When AssiStep is installed in your home the handrail and handle is mounted in the height best suited for you. There are many different ways to hold the AssiStep. Try it out and find your favorite: 1 & 2: One Hand AssiStep can easily be used with one or two hands, both when ascending and descending the stairs. When using one hand, you can hold the center of the handle : Combine handrail and handle For extra support when you are moving the handle, you can use the AssiStep with one hand on the handle and one hand on the handrail. 4: Use vertical part of the handle Some people also prefer to hold one hand on the vertical part of the handle. This is especially useful when descending the staircase.

For health professionals Climbing stairs is challenging for many users. But it may also be of concern for the employees who provide support to ensure safety. AssiStep can offer a very good safety precaution if used behind the patient during excercise ascending the stairscase, and in front of the user when walking down the stairs. You can protect your back from the stress of catching a user out of balance, help heavier users and assist the user without the need of extra personnel. AssiStep is in daily use at rehabilitation centers and institutions in Norway. The users here are able to start exercising in the stairs earlier, and work out on their own. Common conditions for those using the AssiStep is loss of balance and need of crutches or a walker when walking on flat ground.

Can I install AssiStep in my staircase? Yes! AssiStep is a flexible product that can easily adapt to your home and staircase. It consists of a handle which is moved along a handrail. When installing it in your home, the existing handrail in your house will be removed. AssiStep will then function as both a traditional railing and as a stair assistant. If preferred, the AssiStep can also be installed above an existing railing without removing it. The railing consists of standard elements and an inspection of your home is not necessary. The elements are adapted on site and there are no major structural interventions. What is needed are simple measurements and pictures of the staircase in advance. For more information please contact us AssiStep is available for: 1: Straight staircases 2: Staircases w/ L - turn and landing 3: Staircases w/ U - turn and either 1 or more landings 4: Staircases w/ L - turn and without landing 5: Staircases w/ U - turn and without landing

Questions & Answers PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS Who is considered the target group of AssiStep? People who use walking aids on flat ground, or feel insecure or unsteady when walking on the staircase. Should people with dementia use AssiStep? It is not recommended without supervision or guidance. Can you adjust the height of the handle? Yes, it can be adjusted.
