1 Dominican International School PHYSICAL EDUCATION Course Syllabus GRADE LEVEL: 11 SCHOOL YEAR: TEACHER: Mr. Gustl B. Pido Course Description The physical education for grade 11 promotes the value of physical activity in students lives. It gives students opportunities to learn and practice ways of working with others, maintain healthy lifestyles, productive and active life. The student should learn the basic training program of fitness. The program focuses on different kinds of sports and other recreational activities. The aim of this curriculum is to provide balance learning and develop higher order thinking skills in physical fitness, sports coaching, exercise program, technical and tactical skills, attitudes for being physically active and practice a healthy lifestyle for future advantages. Course Goal - Discusses the nature/background of team sports and Individual sports (basketball/volleyball/softball/soccer/badminton/track and field). - Executes on how muscle works and its training effects. - Determines the muscular demands of sports and assess muscular fitness - Designs basic muscular fitness training program - Engages in sport to physically active and promote healthy lifestyle for all students - Designs and implements a personalized exercise program to improve and sustain the desired level of fitness.
2 Student Activities Sports and fitness outdoor activities Recreational activities Sports and conditioning Circuit training Functional training Core training Agility exercise Formats for proper exercise The following steps are the proper sequence base on Anatomy of Workouts base form the book of Successful of Coaching to avoid over training and injury. 1. Warm-up 2. Sports/ fitness activity 3. Cooling down Rules and Regulations Respect everyone's feelings Use each other s' strengths, not weaknesses Be a part of the group in some way Give positive feedback when someone does something well Compete to improve your group, not necessarily against other groups Anticipate unsafe situations Try everyone's suggestions and then formulate/try what will best fit your group. Students are expected to meet at the designated area, no later than 5 minutes after the bell. If they are later than 5 minutes, the student will be marked as tardy. Class will be dismissed 5-8 minutes before the dismissal bell to prepare changing their clothes Students with any type of health related issue, must notify the school nurse, and their PE teacher.
3 Excuses a. If a student is not to participate in class due to illness/injury, she/he is to bring a note from parent/guardian/nurse b. If a student is present at school, but not feeling well, they must see the nurse, and, at the discretion of the PE Teacher, complete a sports/health related assignment in the library c. If a student is to be excused for more than 3 consecutive days, a doctor's note is required (see handbook,) and, at the discretion of the PE Teacher, complete a sports/health related assignment. d. If a student is to be limited in participation, a doctor's note is require Assessment The physical education grades are computed as follows: 1. Participation in Class (30 %) 1.1 Homework/Projects 1.2 Uniform 2. Quizzes/Performance in Class (30 %) 2.1 Individual skills in sports and exercise 2.2 Group skills in sports and exercise 3. Quarter Exam (Practical/Written) (30 %) 4. Deportment Grade (10 %) Other Assessment: correcting their technical and tactical skills by group Rainy Day/Indoor Class 1. Fitness exercises 2. Circuit training 3. Functional training 4. Reading Journals of health and Sports 5. Film viewing
