2 October-November 2017! Page 1! Vol. 2, No. 3!. /.,,!,! The first six weeks flew by so quickly and the students have been working so hard, learning more about volleyball and football. The students were all tested on their skill level in both volleyball. While many did well, the coaching staff saw the need for more work, which in turn made to unit last a little longer than expected. This six weeks the Department will move forward with football and basketball skills. The students will have to practice good communication skills to achieve the goals in the class. We will also begin the first round of fitness assessments this six weeks. This will help the coaching staff develop a more individualized program to help the students succeed on the FitnessGram in the Spring. We have all settled well into our new school year and the kids have done a fantastic job of taking responsibility of their PE equipment. We are pleased to see everyone utilizing their lockers and turning their clothes in on a daily basis to be cleaned. Thank you, students, for being prepared and ready, each day, for class! If your student misplaces or damages their uniform then they will be responsible for the $11 replacement fee before another uniform will be issued. We look forward to another fantastic six weeks! If you have any further questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact the coaching staff Ext. 416 (Girls Coaches office) Ext. 417 (Boys Coaches office) This six weeks, students focused on the skills related to volleyball. Welcome back from Christmas Vacation. I hope everyone had a safe and blessed holiday. I can t believe it s already the second semester of the school year. The year is quickly flying by and we only have a few more six weeks to accomplish so much. This semester will be geared toward fitness as we prepare for the Fitnessgram in the spring. Health related fitness is a vital part of a growing child s life and establishing healthier habits, at a young age, are important. This six weeks will be focused on recreational games that can be played outside of a school setting. The goal of this semester is for students to find activities that they enjoy doing and are physically active. Parents, it s always a great idea to go outside and be apart of your child s active lifestyle. Your enthusiasm and energy will encourage your child to have a life long love of healthy living. Thank you, parents, once again for your commitment, cooperation, and help in your child s education. Please feel free to call or if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions. Our physical education and pre-athletic students have worked very hard all year to improve their fitness levels and are expected to their very best on the test. The Fitnessgram results are strictly individualized and personal. The results will be handed back to each student at the end of the year. The 7 categories are height/weight, Pacer test, BMI, Push-up, Curl-up, Trunk Lift, and Shoulder Stretch. Height/Weight: Each student will be weighted (in privacy- for those who are uncomfortable with their weight) and measured. BMI: The acronym stands for Body Mass Index. It is a ratio of weight over height. Pacer test: This test is used to test a students Cardiovascular Endurance. Students will run until they are unable to complete the task in the specified time. Push-Up: Students will complete push-ups to a count on the CD. Students will continue to do as many push-ups as possible until they are unable to keep up with the counter or are unable to complete the push-up properly. This test is used to test a student s upper body strength and endurance. Curl-Up: A test to used to challenge a student s abdominal strength and endurance. Students are required to do as many curl-ups as possible to a counter on the Fitnessgram CD. Trunk Lift: The purpose of the assessment is to test the strength and flexibility of a student s back. Students will lay flat on a mat and lift their head and shoulders off the ground while leaving hands and legs flat on the surface. Shoulder Stretch: This is a simple test of upper body and shoulder girdle flexibility. Students will try and touch their fingers together while extending one arm over their should and reaching the other behind their back. If you would like a full description of each assessment along will further information about the procedures and importance of implementing the Fitnessgram, please feel free to visit the link at This is a great website for information on test, reading results, and improving your overall health.
