21 EQUIPMENT Please share the equipment among trainees of all levels or according to the facilitator s instructions. Clean the equipment thoroughly and return props to their proper locations after each session. INVOLVEMENT Ask questions related directly to training topics. We love questions! Refrain from contributing lengthy stories, suggestions or providing information on other modalities unless invited to by the facilitator. Participate as a trainee but monitor your floor time so the facilitators have the maximum amount of time to convey their knowledge. PRACTICE TEACHING & PERSONAL PRACTICE Be aware of the studio class schedule and plan your sessions accordingly, during non-peak usage times. Always yield equipment and space use to Vitality staff, if requested. Notice your position in the studio and space yourself so that others have room. Please leave one reformer between you and anyone else working in the same room, if space allows. Use a quiet voice when others are using the same space. Keep laughter low and make sure it is contained within your student-teacher space. Do not chat about non-training topics in spaces where others are concentrating; remove yourself to the lobby to socialize. TAKING CLASSES Be the first to step out of a full class. You must be experienced in Pilates before taking a level 3 class. Your facilitators will give you permission to attend Level 3 & 4 classes when you are ready. OBSERVATION When observing a class, avoid drawing attention. Try to shift your focus throughout the hour so that you avoid focusing on a specific client for too long. Ask the instructor if you want to observe a private lesson. Sit a respectful distance from clients and equipment. Observe quietly and turn off electronic devices. STUDIO CARE & LOCK UP PROCEDURES Clean equipment and props thoroughly and return all equipment and props to their proper place. You will sign a key agreement and be walked through proper opening/closing and studio procedures at the time you receive your keys. Make sure all doors and windows to the outside are locked and secured before being the last one out. Turn off all lights, unless noted otherwise. Make sure there are no clients or trainees left in the studio before locking up! TEACH ONLY WHAT YOU KNOW WELL All trainees have an important responsibility to teach only what they know well. Please be careful not to introduce incorrect or confusing information to fellow trainees. The information that trainees process in their first few weeks of training can have a big impact on their learning and the way they process future information. Only teach what is firmly in your knowledge level. Without exception, do not introduce non-pilates modalities, or information that has not explicitly been introduced on training days. If you find yourself teaching something that you are confused about, tell your fellow trainee(s) so that they do not incorporate incorrect information. If a fellow trainee asks you a question that you are unsure of, say I don t know. Do not hypothesize. Later, once a firm foundation has been laid for both Level 1 and Level 2 trainees, students can hypothesize as peers. Stay humble and open to learning from peers. Be mindful of giving appropriate feedback and pace your feedback responsibly. Trainees are more sensitive to receiving feedback than they admit. Do not give feedback from a place of personal frustration as you face physical challenges. 17

22 BECOMING AN EMERGENCY SUB When you pass the midterm, Adena: As an emergency sub, you are compensated $10 for each class taught as well as recording double practice teaching hours.
