1 Fitness Unit Block Plan Day One: (Pacer) Lesson Focus: Fitness Gram Pre-Test Psychomotor: SWBAT run the PACER getting their heart rates above 170 at least one time during the test. Cognitive: Students will be able to show knowledge that physical activity can improve their cardiovascular fitness by increasing their PACER scores during the class. Affective: Students will encourage their partners to keep going and to push themselves to go further during the PACER test for the entire activity Global Goal: Students show knowledge that they can apply the PACER test to their grade Day Two: (Cardio Kickball) Lesson Focus: Cardiovascular Endurance Psychomotor: Students will be able to stay in the TRZ for 5 minutes during the activity cardio kickball. Cognitive: Students will be able to show understanding of how to read the heart rate monitors throughout the class period. Affective: Students will work as a team when they are wearing the pennies to get other students out during the entire activity. Global Goal: Students learn how to record heart rate and how they will be graded in class.

2 Day Three: (Pacing) Lesson Focus: Cardiovascular Endurance/Laps around Track Psychomotor: Students will be able to continue running for a minimum of 15 seconds after I blow the whistle signifying 30 seconds left in the warm-up. Cognitive: Students will show knowledge of the benefits of pacing themselves when running and how it can help improve their cardiovascular endurance by the end of class. Affective: Students will complete the exercises and not brag about being the fastest person in the class or make fun of anyone who is not running as fast as they are around the track for the duration of the class period. Global Goal: Students are able to show knowledge on how to increase their cardiovascular endurance. Day Four: (Jump Rope and Dynaband Exercises) Lesson Focus: Muscular Strength/Endurance Psychomotor: Students will perform dynaband activities without stopping for each leader and will complete an entire song without stopping. Cognitive: Students will be able to show knowledge of the benefits of working all components of fitness by the end of class by raising their hands when the correct answer is said by the teacher. Affective: Students will follow the instructions given regarding the jump ropes throughout the entire activity without having to be reinforced more than twice. Global Goal: Students show knowledge as to why they need to work all components of fitness. Day Five: (Go for Team Gold)

3 Lesson Focus: Muscular Strength/Endurance Psychomotor: SWBAT correctly perform the strength and endurance exercises during the second 30 second set of each muscular strength and endurance presentation by each group. Cognitive: Students will be able to describe the benefits of muscular strength and endurance based on content learned and presented during the lesson. Affective: SWBAT work with their groups to accurately describe, explain and present information on each strength task card during their 3 minutes of preparation. Global Goal: Students will describe the benefits of muscular strength and endurance during each group lead activity. Day Six: (Yoga) Lesson Focus: Flexibility Psychomotor: Students will be able to improve the number of thrusts they do in each of the 3 sets during the Pilates exercise. Cognitive: Students will be able to complete the quiz with a 70 percent efficiency rate at the end of the class. Affective: Students will be able to complete the yoga exercises without bothering the person next to them for the duration of the activity. Global Goal: Students will show knowledge of the importance of increasing flexibility. Day Seven: (X Marks the Spot, Flip N Go) Lesson Focus: Body Composition

4 Psychomotor: Students will remain active during the activity to get their heart rate above 160 at least once through the duration of the activity. Cognitive: Students will show knowledge of how it is important to have good body composition by answering questions at the end of class. Affective: Throughout the course of the activity, students will be honest by not flipping over cups for the other team or flipping cups while someone is doing jumping jacks by them Global Goal: Students show knowledge of how body composition influences their overall fitness Day Eight: (Survivor Fitness Challenge) Lesson Focus: Survivor Fitness Challenge (All Fitness Components) Psychomotor: Students will be able to achieve a heart rate above 150 at least once during Ultimate Frisbee. Cognitive: Students will be able to show know knowledge of the 5 components of fitness by taking a written quiz at the end of class and scoring an average of 70 percent or higher. Affective: SWBAT work together as a team by accepting all teammates and going at a pace that everyone can keep up with during the survivor challenge. Global Goal: Students utilize teamwork to complete the tasks during the activity. Day Nine: (PACER) Fitness Gram Post-Test Psychomotor: Students will be able to increase the number of laps during the pacer by 10 percent when compared to the pre-test.

5 Cognitive: Students will be able to show knowledge of the benefits of having increased cardiovascular endurance. Affective: Students will encourage their partner to complete as many laps as possible for the duration of the Pacer. Global Goal: Students will be able to understand why increasing your fitness is an important part of your lifestyle. Day 10: Unit Exam
