Sign up for one of these great classes! Science of Health and Fitness Aquatics SCUBA Aerobic and Strength Training DANCE Yoga Pilates Sports

KINE 223 Introduction to the Science of Health and Fitness- Interested in a 3-hour science course that exposes you to fitness, nutrition, wellness and conditioning? This class counts towards core curriculum AND keeps you moving! KINE 210 The Art of Movement - Designed for students with little to no movement/dance experience. It is part lecture and part activity with an emphasis on moving successfully. If you ve never been comfortable doing more than walking, this class is for you. KINE 120 The Science of Basic Health and Fitness- An overview of the human body with an interdisciplinary focus on wellness and longevity. Physical activity is integrated into the course and centers on the scientific basis of conditioning. KINE 120 can substitute for KINE 198. KINE 198 Health & Fitness- This course is designed to introduce the student to a variety of health & fitness related topics. Experience a variety of fitness activities over the semester. *This class is required of all students, including transfer students, that entered TAMUG before Fall KINE 199- ACTIVITY Aquatics Beginning Swimming For ANY level of swimmer, whether you want to learn HOW to swim, or simply how to incorporate basic swim workouts into your routine. Conditioning Swimming A great workout for swimmers that can handle over 1000m or more! Focus on improving all 4 IM strokes, or maybe learn butterfly for the first time! Basic Scuba- You re on an island- learn how to dive! After completing the course material, you can receive your certification to SCUBA dive and use it anywhere in the world! Advanced Scuba Already certified, but interested in getting more experience? Take this course to get exposed to night diving, deep diving and other specialties, as well as earn your NAUI Advanced certification. Rescue Diving Already certified, but ready to learn the skills it takes to be able to assist other divers when they are tired, panicked, or in distress? You ll earn your NAUI rescue certification and feel confident in your ability to help others while diving!
3 Competitive Rowing- On the Aggie Crew team and want to earn a 1-hour credit for practice time? Sign up for this course and become an even stronger rower. Basic Sailing- Learn the basic skills of sailing and enjoy an activity that will make all of your friends wish they were going to a university where they could sail! Keelboat Sailing- Does sailing around the world with some friends sound like something you may want to do in your life time? Maybe just a day sail is more your speed! Not sure because you don t know how to sail, well you have come to the right place. A hands-on practical sailing class is taught every week. Aerobic and Strength Training Aerobic Running Enjoy running as a form of cardiovascular and muscular endurance conditioning. This class includes long runs, interval training, core strength and flexibility integration. Bootcamp- Experience a variety of workouts throughout the semester to create muscle confusion, eliminate boredom, and assist in achieving personal goals! The class includes high intensity and endurance exercises, incorporates a variety of equipment, and encourages a positive environment for success. Beginning Step- Wish to develop or maintain cardiovascular and muscular endurance but have limited experience with step aerobics? Get a great aerobic workout using basic movements and fun equipment! Intermediate Step- Designed for the student that is proficient in basic step skills and is eager to work aerobically at a higher level of intensity and for longer duration. Personal goal setting and assessment are emphasized Basic Strength Training- Introduces you to strength training as a lifelong activity through the use of both free weights and machine weights. Proper techniques and training principles will be taught using different types of resistance. Sports Conditioning- Regardless of your fitness background or experience, this class is for everyone! The X-fit workouts are based on functional movements and every workout is scalable to your needs. Kickboxing- Improve your endurance, cardiovascular fitness and tone muscle. This class incorporates cardio kickboxing with Kettlebells, interval workouts, and circuit training. You will get your heart rate up and burn calories with the fun, intense total body workouts. Zumba- Exercise in disguise! An easy to follow and invigorating class that will give you a fun workout that will allow you to dance your way to fitness.
4 Dance Beginning Ballet Never taken ballet, but interested in trying? Students are taught basic barre and center technique, basic ballet steps and beginner level combinations. Intermediate Ballet For students with beginning to intermediate ballet training. Students will learn and an intermediate level barre, intermediate steps/combinations. Beginning Jazz Have little or no experience in jazz? Work on flexibility, strength, and motor coordination in this class! Perform basic jazz dance fundamentals and combinations. Intermediate Jazz -For the student who has mastered fundamental knowledge and basic jazz dance skills. Intermediate level turns, leaps, and progressions are introduced. Beginning Social Dance A class for men and women who have little or no dance experience, but want to learn the basics: two step, waltz, schottische, polka and swing and accompanying dances are taught. Intermediate Social Dance- This class is designed to take partner dancing to the next level. We swing, waltz, tango, salsa (and more) with the emphasis on performance level skill. We have a BLAST!! Advanced Performance Jazz- For those dance students who enjoy a challenging class and performing. Have a great time while enhancing your dancing abilities! Sports Beginning Basketball -Learn the basic skills and rules for the game. Classes will include instruction on fundamental skills and exposure to team concepts. Lacrosse- Whether you ve never even heard of lacrosse, or you re an expert player, this NEW class will allow you to learn or improve the fundamentals of the game and prepare Lacrosse team players for the upcoming season. Players learn or improve their running, passing, catching, shooting, cradling, and other abilities. Pickleball- A fast-paced racket sport, played on a badminton court with a 3 tall net. Skills are primarily tennis and racquetball-like, and can be learned in a short time. Soccer For beginners and advanced level players. Enjoy playing in various game situations while focusing on skills and team concepts. Beginning Tennis- NO existing tennis skills or knowledge of the game? Don t worrycome play! Fundamentals in skills and basic rules are taught.
5 Intermediate Tennis- Designed for the student who is proficient in ground strokes, volley and serve, has a working knowledge of scoring and rules, and can play the game. Ultimate Frisbee- Learn how to throw and catch a disc as you PLAY on the field with your team. Beginning Volleyball- Gives students a basic understanding of the game of volleyball as well as develop proper skills and techniques. Intermediate/Sand Volleyball- Time to take your game up a notch! Classes include position specific training, combination drills, and offensive and defensive strategies in a competitive environment. Yoga/Pilates Beginning Yoga- Designed to introduce basic yoga poses by using a combination of Hatha yoga and stretching/strengthening techniques. Grades are based on performance of skills and written exams. Intermediate Yoga- Picks up where beginning yoga left off! Bound and twisted poses to challenge your mind and body. Hold poses deeper and longer and study the Chakra system. Power Yoga- Add intensity to your yoga practice! Experience an increase in your physical and mental strength, cardiovascular endurance, and flexibility. Imagine your yoga practice with integrated plyometrics, calisthenics, and creativity. Power Pilates- Take Pilates to a new level integrating the entire body with a core focus. Pilates fundamentals are used for warm-ups and then on to Pilates boot camp for the remainder of each class. Mat Pilates Experience the workout that many elite athletes swear by! Engage the deep stabilizing muscles of the core through foundational Pilates movements. You ll increase core stability, strength, and flexibility. This booklet is designed to assist academic advisors and students in choosing KINE classes.
