2 Benefits of taking part in Physical Activity There are many reasons why people take part in physical activity, but what are the benefits? The Analysis of Performance is designed to help you apply the knowledge you have gained throughout the GCSE course by watching and analysing another player s performance. It is worth 12% of your final mark so can be the difference between grade boundaries. What will you have to do? The AOP is carried out on one of the areas you are offering in the role of player/performer. You will need to watch another player s performance and give feedback on the following 5 areas: 1. Rules regulations and terminology 2. Observe and analyse a performance 3. Evaluate performance 4. Plan strategies, tactics and Practices 5. Plan a personal exercise programme (PEP) Task to prepare for your oral exam It is vital that you are fully prepared for your AOP in order to secure as much of the 12% as you can. Therefore you must complete the following research tasks for the first 4 areas (you will do you PEP with your teacher at a later date).
6 RULES, REGULATION AND TERMINOLOGY Find out the name of the governing body in your sport (eg Netball is England netball). Visit their website to find out about the rules for your sport. You must show that you understand and can apply them. For 5 different rules complete the following: GOVERNING BODY 1.Rule (terminology) When would this be broken? (You can attach any diagrams or internet research) OBSERVE AND ANALYSE A PERFOMANCE In this section you must observe a performance and make a detailed analysis of it, using suitable techniques for the activity. Before you start your observations, you should know what the skill or performance looks like when performed perfectly the perfect model. TASK Choose the skill that you perform best. Describe in writing exactly how you perform that skill. Break the skill down into parts to help you be detailed eg arm action, leg action, body position head position. If you like you can include diagrams and coaching points also: SKILL
9 EVALUATING PERFORMANCE When you have done your analysis you must evaluate (assess) the quality of the performance, skill, tactics and fitness factors based upon what you have seen and any statistics you may have noted. This should always be measured against the perfect model - how a professional athlete would perform at the highest level eg Wayne Rooney in Football. TASK Pick someone to evaluate. This should be someone who you know well and ideally who your teacher has seen perform. Thinking about how they compare to the perfect model identify three strengths and three weaknesses for the following: SKILL eg shooting, tackling, batting, catching. Remember to think about how the skill can be broken down to allow you to evaluate the skill in detail STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
10 FITNESS eg health related and skill related STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES PLAN STRATEGIES, TACTICS and PRACTICES Planning means working out ways to improve a performance. How you do this depends on what needs to be improved. TASK Choose a skill which is essential to one of your practical activities. Name three faults that could occur when practising it. What practice could you devise to improve it? SKILL Faults that could occur: Practice you would do to improve it (you can use a diagram if you like)
11 You should be able to do this for all the major skills needed in your sport. TACTICS/STRATEGIES Tactics or strategies should be employed to improve performance. Describe three tactics/strategies that you would use to optimise performance. Again use diagrams also if it is helpful.
