2 Job Stress is Bad for Business Workplace stress is practically taken for granted. Everyone knows that this isn t good for employees health, or for efficiency, productivity, and profit. But no one seems to know how to change things. National polling identify Job Pressure as the #1 cause of stress in America. The medical community also knows the effects of stress: the cause of up to 60% of illnesses and of 80% of workplace accidents. These problems have too long been accepted as part of the status quo, just another part of the job. 1

3 Stress Management for Better Business Life With reduced stress, employees feel better and work harder. High employee morale and customer satisfaction seem to go hand in hand. Stress research in Canada measured the changes to business culture following a stress management program. A 58% reduction in missed work days, 53% fewer doctor s office visits, and 52% lower disability time were just a few of the results. 9 5 Exercises to Change the Way you Work While stress is a part of life, your response to it determines the extent to which stress impacts your life. Powerful stress-fighting tools include Breathing, Movement and Mindfulness. 1. Chest Opening Exercise Watch this video to try it at home: One area of the body that captures and holds stress tension is the chest. The Chest opening exercise is a simple, effective tool for releasing tension from the chest, shoulders, and upper back. 8

10 2. Abdominal Breathing Exercise Watch this video to try it at home: Changing the way you breathe is a simple and effective way to cut stress out of your life. Breathing is the most fundamental thing we do; it is worth practice and attention. When you find yourself feeling stressed, stop what you are doing and sit down, if possible. With your back straight and shoulders relaxed, place both hands over your lower abdomen, about 2 inches below your navel. Take a deep breath, extending your diaphragm. You can also do deep breathing exercises before stressful situations arise. Grab a yoga mat, lie on the floor and try our 5 part advanced breathing exercises. 3. Intestine Exercises to Relieve Abdominal Tension Watch this video to try it at home: Much accumulated stress tension is held in the abdomen and lower back. This exercise is designed to release abdominal tension, which naturally leads to deeper breathing and relaxation in other parts of the body. 9

11 4. Brain Wave Vibration Watch this video to try it at home: Movement is a great way to release tension, but it can also be a tool for focus and concentration. This simple technique was designed to help people achieve more relaxed brain activity. Studies have shown its positive impact on stress, depression, and sleep latency. 5. JiGam Mindful Movement Watch this video to try it at home: This exercise may be different than anything you have done before. However, once you get started it will feel natural. With this exercise, you learn to focus your attention on the sensations in your hands. With this simple active concentration, your whole body becomes naturally calm 10
