Additional Information
Health & Fitness of Your Child Is Our Concern
More and more of our young people are obese. More and more of our young people diagnose with diabetes.
OBESE children have HIGHER risks of developing SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUES
What is BMI? BMI stands for Body Mass Index, a measure of the amount of body fat. Age, gender, height and weight factored into calculation of BMI.
How to Measure BMI? Weight of a child (kg) divided by the square of a child s height (m) Age 10 Years Gender - Male Weight 40 kg Height 1.5 m x 1.5 = th Percentile on the BMI chart
What does the value mean? Below the 15 th Percentile Under Weight Between the 15 th and 85 th Percentile Acceptable Weight 60 th Percentile Above the 85 th Percentile Overweight/ Obese
Physical activity stimulates the & brain body for better learning to take place
Ensure that your child stays fit and healthy by for at least 20minutes everyday
How can you help your child to prevent obesity?
Health Tip #1 Stop drinking sweetened drinks Get your child to drink plain water. Make it a habit!
Health Tip #2 Avoid having meals at fast food restaurants Eat more vegetables and fruits. Reduce salt and fats intake.
Health Tip #3 Do not eat snacks after dinner time. If your child is feeling hungry, give him/her a glass of plain water or a serving of fruit.
Big Misconception My kid is growing, so they need more carbohydrates in their diet to ensure that they will grow tall and strong. Excess carbohydrates become fats in the body. If it is not burn through exercising. This will lead to weight increase and obesity.
EXERCISE REGULARLY Do outdoor exercises, play sports with your kids. Do indoor exercises (skipping, stairs climbing, sit-ups, side-steps) Recommended Daily Routine WATCH WHAT YOU EAT Eat more vegetables and fruits Maintain a healthy diet Avoid oily and junk food Eat what is required and not what your child desires
Healthy Kids BETTER Learners Let s work together, school and parents, to bring about a meaningful and fruitful learning experience for the pupils.
Ralph Waldo Emerson; Sow a thought and reap an action; sow an act and reap a habit; sow a habit and reap a character; sow a character and reap a destiny. The early years of a leaner s education have tremendous impact on his/her adult life.
Thank you!
