6. Introducing a new client to Power Plate
The First Impression PHASE 1: GETTING TO KNOW YOUR CLIENT We all know the importance of creating a great first impression. Introducing new members to the Power Plate machine is no different. Consistency is key in helping to give a positive first impression. Remember, when being introduced to something new, everyone wants to understand what s in it for me. Identifying the person s primary fitness goals and giving them specific examples on how the Power Plate machine can help them achieve these goals can help build this positive first experience. The following guide should give you and your staff the ideas and tools to help educate each and every person, and give them a great first impression. Step 1:Needs Analysis Establish primary goals Establish the reasons for wanting to use the Power Plate machine Talk about and relate the key benefits of the Power Plate directly to their specific goals and needs Step 2:Medical History Screen the customer in relation to contraindications, injuries and health issues (See section 7 on absolute contraindications) Where any contraindications are identified, refer to a medical professional or contact us directly Step 3:Exercise History Try to find out what, if any, exercise or activity they currently undertake From this, determine which aspects of Power Plate training are the most beneficial and significant to them and continue to use these anchors throughout the rest of the interaction
The First Impression PHASE TWO: DELIVERING THE FIRST IMPRESSION The first impression is the most important part of introducing the member to the Power Plate machine for the first time. Once the primary goals have been agreed (Step 1), Contraindications have been discussed (Step 2) and a brief exercise history has been established (Step 3), put the below process into practice. Then proceed to Phase 3: The WOW Program Short explanation of the principle Instruct client to place one foot on the machine Change posture / position Instruct client to place one hand on their quadriceps First Impression
The WOW Program PHASE THREE: THE WOW PROGRAM Give the client the opportunity to experience three elements of an Acceleration Training workout (see Acceleration Training Pyramid) i.e. Stretch, Strength & Power, Recovery & Regeneration BEFORE the hamstring stretch ask client to perform the stretch on the floor to check current flexibility level AFTER the hamstring stretch ask client to perform stretch on the floor again to compare acute improvement in flexibility The WOW program should be tailored to suit the client s individual goals, ability and needs Recommended Settings 30 Sec/30Hz/Low Adjust settings/exercises depending on your clients goals/needs
Do not. Never hang on to the handle bars but only use these to maintain balance. Weight should be evenly distributed in a squat wrong posture may lead to knees over toes, resulting in discomfort in the knee joints Don t lock any joints such as your knees and elbows, but keep them slightly bent.
7. Power Plate and Medical Conditions
Absolute Contraindications A definite NO GO Severe Osteoporosis (T-score of -4 or worse) 2. Severe cardiovascular diseases 3. Pregnancy (12 weeks post ok) 4. Acute thrombosis conditions 5. Pace maker 6. Cancer (currently suffering from it) 7. Epilepsy 8. Detached retina (serious eye problems) Discover the Difference
Power Plate Disclaimer We advise all users to contact their physician or specialist before using the Power Plate machine and recommend that they do not start training without first obtaining medical clearance to exercise. In all cases, if an individual is currently active, cleared for exercise, and already does any weight-bearing exercise such as weight training or jogging they are likely to be a good candidate for training on the Power Plate machine. However every person should be examined on an individual basis by someone qualified to advise them. As with any form of exercise, if your client feels faint, dizzy or ill while working out on the Power Plate machine, you should cease the session immediately. Consult your doctor or specialist before restarting your training. We strongly recommend clients only to use the machine with a Power Plate certified Instructor. Research is being conducted on the effects of Acceleration Training exercise on specific medical conditions. Scientific and practical evidence indicate that there are a number of conditions where it is proven to be beneficial to integrate Power Plate training into a personal treatment plan. This should always be done under the supervision of a physician/specialist or trained professional. Discover the Difference
