2 Coaches Training Evaluation Checklist How do I use the Coaches Evaluation Checklist? Monitor a training session or analyse your coaching session using the following questions/guidelines/ checklist/structure circle Yes or No. Pre-Training Checklist 1. Is the Coach Organised? Y/N 2. Does the Coach have a written plan/list of the training session e.g. drills, organised and arranged? Y/N 3. Does the coach follow the 7 guidelines and 6 goals for conducting an AFL Training session to maximise the use of their training time (See Below)? Y/N 4. Does the coach have the cones and drills set up prior to training? Y/N 5. Does the coach incorporate as many people as possible into training session e.g. water carriers, assistants, parents, players? Y/N 6. Y/N Training Session Structure and Sequence Tactical and Technical Skill Development 15. Does the coach progress training from non-competitive skill based drills to competitive based skill drills? Y/N 16. Does the coach predominantly use skill and game based drills to develop fitness, skills and decision making ability? Y/N 17. Does the Coach incorporate tackling drills into the training session? Y/N 18. Does the Coach Incorporate Static Stretching and Flexibility into the post training recovery? Y/N 19. Does the coach discuss the role of optimal nutrition throughout the training session? 20. Does the coach discuss the importance of recovery methods at the end of session? 4 17-20: Very Good - Congratulations, keep the standards up so you and your players continue to reap the rewards and benefits of highly structured specific training : Average - Good Effort, let s look to identify the areas of weakness and aim for improvement next evaluation. Seek out the resources necessary to move up to the next level! 11-14: Below Average - Your training needs to improve significantly if your players to maximise their potential. With a little tweaking your training organisation and structure could make all the difference between making the finals and missing out altogether. 0-10: Unacceptable - Your players performance and development will be severely compromised. Go back and re-visit the How to Structure a Training Session DVD and Chapter in The How to Physically Prepare Australian Rules Footballers Manual. Use the Training Session Template and Pro-Forma to assist with the development of your training sessions. Notes for Question 3: How to Structure a Training Session to Maximise Time with your Athletes 7 Guidelines - We want to maximise use of training time by being organised - Have drills and cones set up prior to start of training session - Use as many people as you can to assist you - Use as many footballs as you can - Have the players touching the football as much as possible - Use injured players to assist with training - Use as many drink people or water bottles as you can 4 Coaches Training Evaluation Checklist Joey Hayes 2010
