FREEDOM TO MOVE I WON T BE RESTRAINED BY MY INJURY. I WANT A SUPPORT I CAN RELY ON, THAT IS WITH ME AT EVERY TURN. I SEE MY SUPPORT AS AN EXTENSION OF MY OWN BODY. TO GIVE ME BACK THE CONFIDENCE IN MY ABILITY. TO GIVE ME THE FREEDOM TO MOVE CONTENTS 0 AEROTHERM SYSTEM 04 HISTORY OF VULKAN 06 KNEE 08 THIGH, CALF & ANKLE 0 BACK SHOULDER 4 ELBOW & WRIST
INTRODUCING THE AEROTHERM SYSTEM THE VULKAN AEROTHERM SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE THE THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS OF HEAT RETENTION PROVIDED BY NEOPRENE, WHILE PROMOTING AIR FLOW. The heat retaining supports are laminated with our proprietary spiral lining, which allows air to circulate freely, drawing excess sweat away from the skin. This allows the skin to function normally despite the increase in temperature, improving comfort levels, allowing the support to be worn for extended periods. PROTECTIVE TOP LAYER The rugged outer is the icing on the cake. The tough nylon fabric is Mauser stitched along key stress points to provide the strongest possible seam. NEOPRENE CORE The closed cell neoprene core insulates and retains body heat for natural heat therapy. Retaining heat increases local circulation, improving elasticity and the range of pain free movement. Healing is promoted and recovery times shortened, allowing you to get back to doing the things you love much sooner. AEROTHERM LINING The Aerotherm spiral lining is the clever part. The construction of the lining allows air to circulate freely, helping to draw perspiration away from the skin. This allows the skin to breathe and remain more comfortable so that the support can be worn for extended periods of time. What s more, the unique spiral construction, stimulates the skins receptors with a massaging effect helping to promote local circulation.
HISTORY OF VULKAN IT WAS 977 IN GOTHENBERG SWEDEN, WHEN PER TRANBERG, AN EXPERT IN THE DIVING INDUSTRY STARTED EXPERIMENTING WITH SOME OLD WETSUIT MATERIAL. The material was known as neoprene, and Per used it to make custom knee and elbow protectors for volleyball players who found that the heat and protection helped their performance. He experimented with different types of neoprene materials, density, lining and thickness until he had achieved the ideal fit and level of comfort. 980 s 990 s 970 s THE VULKAN BRAND IS BORN The product was named Vulkan, which when translated into English meaning Volcano. The product was compared to a volcano as it creates an eruption of heat! 977 TRIALS & RESEARCH Throughout the 980 s Per worked tirelessly with medical professionals to carry out clinical research to prove the effectiveness of his products. The first study was presented at the Swedish Annual Medical Conference in December 98 showing the effects of the heat retaining supports of skin temperature. 98 Further studies were conducted throughout the decade and the products were shown in the 5th Nordic Conference of General Medicine as part of the treatment of acute back pain. The supports were shown to reduce the amount of pain and increase the recovery rate.
000 s TRUSTED BY ATHLETES Over the years Vulkan supports have been used by a number of top sports people and athletes. Vulkan products have continued to be used by the top level athletes right through to the present day. VULKAN RE-LAUNCHED ADVANCED ELASTIC INTRODUCED AIRXTEND INTRODUCED 00 VULKAN RE-LAUNCHED Following the acquisition of Vulkan by Performance Health in 06, the Classic range has been redeveloped with a focus on redesigning the product and packaging. 997 MOVED TO THE UK 007 NEW LOGO LAUNCHED CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP In 997, the Vulkan brand was sold by its Swedish owners and left its home in Gothenberg, moving to England. A NEW LOOK FOR A NEW ERA In 007 a new Vulkan logo was designed to reflect the modern era. It still featured an outline of a volcano in its design, to retain a link to the original idea behind the naming of the brand. 007 also saw the launch of Vulkan Advanced Elastic. The lightweight range of elasticated supports has a 4-way stretch material and is ideal where mild levels of support are required, or for use during the acute phase of an injury. THE BEST IS YET TO COME In response to customer demand, Vulkan AirXtend was launched in 00. The range was ideal for smaller retailers as the Universal Sizing reduced stocking levels. The products also benefit from the use of Airprene (a perforated neoprene), and Coolmax fabric, providing optimum airflow and moisture wicking for improved comfort. This introduction is just the first of many. The new owners, Performance Health, are committed to further development and investment in the Vulkan brand, with several projects in progress.
KNEE YOUR KNEE PLAYS A ROLE IN ALMOST ALL OF YOUR MOVEMENTS WHEN YOU WALK YOUR KNEES ENDURE A FORCE EQUIVALENT TO AROUND THREE TIMES YOUR BODY WEIGHT. THE MORE ACTIVE YOU ARE, THE MORE PRESSURE YOU EXERT ON YOUR KNEE, MAKING IT VULNERABLE TO INJURY. The knee is one of the most commonly injured parts of the body. Frequent causes of injuries are damage to ligaments, muscular strains, cartilage damage and tendonitis.

THIGH CALF ANKLE POWER COMES FROM THE GROUND OUR LEGS ARE MADE UP OF SOME OF THE LARGEST MUSCLE GROUPS IN OUR BODY AND CARRY US FROM A TO B... SO THEY RE PRETTY IMPORTANT. BECAUSE YOUR LEGS ARE CONNECTED TO THE GROUND,THEY ARE MOST RESPONSIBLE FOR PUSHING OFF TO GENERATE POWER THROUGHOUT YOUR ENTIRE BODY. When functioning properly, the ankles support one and a half times your weight when you are walking or standing, and eight times your weight when running. Sprained ankles are almost as painful as breaks and are usually stretched or torn ligaments. Ankle sprains are fairly common and take place when you rotate your ankle too far out of the natural position.
THIGH SUPPORT CALF SUPPORT ANKLE SUPPORT ANKLE STABILISING SUPPORT This hard wearing support provides compression and helps retain body heat to increase blood flow. Ideal for anyone returning to activity following an injury to the thigh or hamstring muscles. This tough compression sleeve is ideal for reducing pain associated with calf strains and shin splints. 10 BACK YOUR BACK IS YOUR FOUNDATION IT PLAYS A HUGE ROLE IN HOW YOUR ENTIRE BODY FUNCTIONS, STABILISING YOUR BODY DURING NEARLY ALL DAILY ACTIVITIES. MOST OF US WILL SUFFER WITH BACK PAIN AT SOME POINT IN OUR LIVES. THE MOST COMMON TYPE OF SUDDEN-ONSET LOWER BACK PAIN BY FAR IS CLASSED AS NON-SPECIFIC ACCOUNTING FOR AROUND 9 IN 0 CASES. It s called non-specific because it s usually impossible to pinpoint exactly where the pain is coming from. It s likely to be a muscle strain, ligament sprain, or a minor problem with a disc or joint. This can often be caused by poor posture during daily activities or prolonged periods of bending or heavy lifting.
BACK BRACE SUPPORT UNIVERSAL BACK SUPPORT REINFORCED BACK SUPPORT CONTOURED BACK SUPPORT The Vulkan Back Brace provides significant levels of stability and support for people suffering from a severe episode of back pain. The additional stays and compression strap help limit unwanted twisting and bending movements to allow a quicker recovery without strain. 12 SHOULDER THE SHOULDER IS THE MOST MOBILE JOINT IN THE BODY MOST PROBLEMS IN THE SHOULDER INVOLVE THE MUSCLES, LIGAMENTS, AND TENDONS. PEOPLE WHO HAVE DEMANDING TRAINING PROGRAMS ARE PARTICULARLY VULNERABLE TO SHOULDER PROBLEMS, WHICH CAN DEVELOP SLOWLY THROUGH REPETITIVE, INTENSIVE ROUTINES. Common causes of shoulder pain include damage to the muscles or tendons around the shoulder, muscular tension between the neck and shoulders, shoulder instability and trapped muscles or tendons.

ELBOW WRIST FLEXIBILITY AND STRENGTH OUR WRISTS AND ELBOWS HAVE A TOUGH JOB. THEY HAVE TO BE MOBILE AND FLEXIBLE ENOUGH TO GIVE US THE RANGE OF MOTION WE NEED, BUT ALSO PROVIDE STRENGTH AND POWER. Both the wrist and the elbow are often subjected to repetitive movements making them extremely common sites for injuries. As a result, repetitive strain injuries are extremely common, causing damage to the ligaments or tendons through overuse.
