1 June 2017 Newsletter Upcoming in June: June 4 th County Kids of Steel Triathlon June 5 th Women on Weights begins June 10 th Babysitting Course June 14 th Free Pilates class for anyone 12pm June 14 th Adult Tap starts June 21 st Energy Stretch on the Beach 11am June 23 rd Fiesta Fitness at Three Dog Winery 11:30am June 27 th Ladies Bootcamp begins 50/50 Draw June 1 st to 16 th Prince Edward Fitness & Aquatic Centre News: Renovations to our Group Fitness Studio have begun. We currently have a temporary wall set up next to our studio. This will allow us to continue using our space while renovations take place. We look forward to our larger studio in the near future! PEFAC was successful in our application to Ontario 150. This grant is to renovate the front lobby and install accessible front doors. We are also on our maintenance year for our pool. Which means we are emptying and replacing all water, along with fixing patches and doing a thorough cleaning. With this being said, the pool will be closed Monday August 28 th - September 10 th, The FACILITY will be closing for a week Monday September 4 th -Sunday September 10 th, 2017 to allow for renovations to be completed and an overhaul of the facility with thorough cleanings, painting touch-ups and reorganization. We appreciate your support throughout this closure and we will see you back in our sparkling newly renovated facility Monday September 11 th, 2017 at 6am. Fitness class of the month! Every month, the Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatic Centre will offer a Free Class of the Month. The selected class will be free to anyone; you do not need to be a member. Join us Wednesday June 14 th for Pilates at 12pm noon.
2 May 3 rd members and staff of Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatic Centre attended the Heart and Stroke Foundation Big Bike Ride. The team raised $ towards Heart disease and stroke research. Congrats team! May 15 th Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatic Centre attended a course by Accessibility Ontario to learn about making accessible documents. As such, the Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatic Centre will now be working at providing accessible PDF documents We are happy that we are now able to provide accessible documents to all those in need. May 29 th Prince Edward Staff took part in a Tread-athon fundraiser. All staff completed their times including Meloni who had to tread water for 2 hours. Thank you to all of the members for your support and thank you John for the donuts. In total $ was raised for Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatic Centre. Winners of the Amazing Race Challenge: Krista MacPherson & Hollie Graham as well as Brodie Welbanks & Trevor Hennessy. Group Fitness Participants: The Summer Schedule will begin July 3 rd. Please be aware of the classes and what is involved in each class, including what equipment is being used. Instructors take their time to prepare classes for everyone and give modifications when needed. Take a look at class descriptions and equipment codes on the schedule to see what best suits your needs. Events happening at the Prince Edward Fitness & Aquatic Centre in June: June 4 th The County Kids of Steel Triathlon will be taking place in and around Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatic Centre. Volunteers are always needed. To help out contact volunteer@countykidsofsteel.ca The next round of Women on Weights with Conor begins Monday June 5 th. The class runs for 8 weeks, Monday & Wednesday at either 10am or 5:30pm. Cost is $120 for Members and $150 for Non-Members. To register please contact or at the front desk.
3 June 10 th the Prince Edward Fitness & Aquatic Centre is offering a Babysitting Course. The course runs from 9am-4pm and cost is $50. Contact us to register. Adult tap continues with our next session starting June 14 th. Class runs for 8 weeks, Wednesdays at 4:45pm. Cost is $75 for Members and $85 for Non-Members. Contact us or stop in to register. We have another Energy Stretch on the Beach event happening June 21 st. This class will take place at 11am at the Wellington Beach. You must register in advance for this class. Cost is $10. A minimum number of participants are required in order to run the class. This month we are offering a fun Fiesta Fitness at Three Dog Winery, Friday June 23rd at 11:30am. It will be located at the Three Dog Winery. Cost is $10 to participate. You must register in advance as a minimum number of participants are required. Three Dog Winery has yummy wood burning pizza. Stay after class and enjoy lunch and taste the wines! Ladies Bootcamp starts up June 27 th. This program runs Tuesdays at 6:30pm and Thursdays at 5:30pm for 8 weeks. Cost is $120 for members and $150 for non members +HST. Personal Training and Rehabilitation: Book your session today! Member Spotlight: Ian Milley began swimming about one year ago. His first week of swimming, Ian wouldn t go past the flags. Now Ian is not only swimming past the flags, he is even jumping off the board! I got to sit and watch Ian s lesson recently and learned all about this 10 year old s life and love for swimming. This is Ian s first Interview and he is very excited!
4 What do you love about Swimming? Having Fun and Using Flippers Why did you start taking swim lessons? Always loved being in the pool but I was very nervous Do you do any other activities? I play the piano. I can play songs like Fur Elise and Mary had a little lamb What do you do in your spare time? Play the guitar, play outside, Ride the motorcycle with my dad, visit llamas What are some of your favourite things to do in the water? Doing bobs, going under water and jumping off the boards What are 3 things you like doing in your swimming lessons? Swimming on my belly, Playing with the rings, Swimming with the flippers Who are a couple of your favourite artists? Elvis Presley and One Direction Do you have any pets? I have a dog named Weiner One final note from Ian: I love giving my mom a thumbs up during my lessons! Future Events: Children s Summer Camp registration is now open. Camps begin July 3 rd and run throughout July and August. Each week is a different camp theme. The Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatic Centre is also offering a Dance Camp the week of July 3 rd and August 14th. Weekly Camp themes are listed in the following table. Tee off begins at 11am at the Timber Ridge Golf Course. Cost is $100 per player and includes golf, cart, dinner and prizes. Contact us to register. A free shuttle is available if requested. July 20 th join certified yoga Instructor Stephanie Reynolds for a 2 hour interactive Pelvic floor fitness workshop where you will learn: if kegels are right for you and the proper way to do them, how dysfunction in your core and pelvic floor can lead to disorders like incontinence, prolapse, low back pain, pelvic pain, simple lifestyle modifications and posture adjustments to improve core and pelvic floor health, stretches and exercises to rehabilitate and strengthen your core and pelvic floor muscles.
