New diagnostic and therapeutic modalities have entered the stage. Electrophysiologic devices have become standard of care for the management of advanced heart failure patients. Patient selection and optimization of these devices remain challenges to the practitioner managing the advanced heart failure population. Mechanical ventricular assist devices are emerging not only as bridging therapy but also as long-term destination therapy for the subset of patients who are not candidates for transplantation. Heart transplantation remains the most effective surgical approach of last resort to improve quality of life as well as longevity. This symposium on advanced left and right heart failure will address the most current diagnostic and therapeutic advances in the field. We have chosen topics directly relevant to patient care and assembled a nationally and internationally recognized faculty for their expertise in each area. Additionally, we will provide a glimpse into the future utilizing stem cell therapies for advanced heart failure.
