2 Innovative Procedures, Devices, and State of the Art Care for Arrhythmias, Heart Failure and Structural Heart Disease September 29-October 1, 2016 OVERVIEW There has been a very rapid explosion in the breadth of both pharmacologic as well as device-related cardiac therapies. Our main objective will be to review the indications for the myriad of therapeutic options available for managing patients in an increasingly complex medical landscape. Based on previous experience, we will use small group workshops to further refine and focus our message to clinicians with various experiences in the management of these patients. We are very fortunate to have many world-renowned experts participating as faculty this year. Some of the highlights of the conference will include: Small group case-based workshop focused on the patient with congenital heart disease and heart failure with Dr. Ian Harris; In-depth discussion about advanced ECGs with a few of the field s experts, Dr. Edward Gerstenfeld, Dr. Melvin Scheinman, and Dr. David Singh; Small group heart dissection with UCSF s cardiac pathologists, Dr. Nitish Badhwar and Dr. Philip Ursell; Small group workshop exploring the role of arrhythmia management and electrical-device based therapy for heart failure with Dr. Nitish Badhwar and Dr. Richard Kiel; A broad overview of the rapidly expanding field of structural heart disease provided by local and national experts in the field. This year s conference will be held in Honolulu on the beautiful island of Oahu. The conference is presented by the UCSF Division of Cardiology and the Division of Cardiology at The Queen s Medical Center in Honolulu Hawaii. The conference is sponsored by the UCSF Office of Continuing Medical Education. OBJECTIVES As a result of participating in this course, attendees will: Consider new and upcoming stroke prevention and atrial fibrillation treatments; Improve level of comfort and confidence with cardiac anatomy through hands-on heart dissection; Learn to assess the potential for Allied Health Professionals to perform advanced ECG analysis in practice; Apply new paradigms in the treatment of idiopathic VT and PVC failure; Understand the approaches to managing patients with acute cardiogenic shock and chronic heart failure, pharmacologic therapies and mechanical circulatory devices; Consider new and emerging concepts in the management of pulmonary arterial hypertension; Update transcatheter aortic and mitral valve therapies in practice; Apply improved knowledge of the role of left atrial appendage occlusion in atrial fibrillation to patient care; Refine the role of ECG screening for athletes; Refine the approach to diagnoses and management of genetic arrhythmia syndromes. ACCREDITATION The School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this live activity for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This CME activity meets the requirements under California Assembly Bill 1195, Continuing Education and Cultural and Linguistic Competency.
