2 Outline A (very) brief overview of the structure and function of the cardiovascular system? What data are we integrating and where do we get it? Connecting the dots What do we still need to learn?

3 We know a fair bit about the cardiovascular system as an integration of form and function Blood vessels conduct blood to the heart itself as well as the rest of the body. Cardiomyocytes are contractile cells with immense energy needs Rhythmic waves of electrical activity ensure coordinated contraction of different regions of the heart. A muscular pump and its delivery system. Heart valves ensure unidirectional flow of blood.
