4 Course Overview This unique one day event will bring together nationally recognized adult congenital heart specialists to provide information on the latest in the clinical presentation and care of the adult with congenital heart disease. Using an exciting and interactive, case-based approach, teams of experts will describe and discuss diagnosis and management of patients with a variety of congenital cardiac defects including: atrial septal defect, coarctation of the aorta, tetralogy of Fallot, transposition complexes, and single ventricle. Among the topics discussed will be the evaluation of right ventricular function and issues related to reproduction and pregnancy. There will be ample time for attendees to interact with the faculty. Current research in adult congenital heart disease will be highlighted in a moderated poster session. Finally, providers will have a unique opportunity to learn about the impact of congenital heart disease on the lives of patients through a question and answer session with members of the Adult Congenital Heart Association. This conference will be combined with a research symposium. To submit an abstract go to Educational Objectives Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to: 1 Understand problems faced by adults with tetralogy of Fallot, including pulmonary insufficiency, arrhythmias, and the aortic root; Know the issues associated with repairs for transposition of the great arteries: systemic right ventricular function, baffle issues and arrhythmias, and the preferred methods for diagnosing their residual problems; 3 Understand when closure of an atrial septal defect is indicated and what is the best method for closing these defects; 4 To know the late complications in patients with coarctation of the aorta including when to intervene in primary coarctation and recoarctation and to know what else to look out for; 5 Understand the issues faced by patients who have had palliative procedures for single ventricle and Fontan physiology; 6 To know the best methods for measuring right ventricular function including advanced imaging methods such as MRI and echocardiography; 7 To know the issues faced by women with congenital heart disease when they go through pregnancy.
