2 Why You Should Attend Diastolic dysfunction is poorly understood and plays a role in most types of heart disease. Echocardiography is a non invasive means by which to diagnose and assess diastolic dysfunction. CVI s 3rd Annual Echocardiography Update focuses on diastology and the diseases most frequently associated with diastolic dysfunction and encountered in everyday clinical practice. Experts in a variety of areas including heart failure, amyloid heart disease, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy will discuss the most current techniques for diagnosis and management of these conditions. The program also features live echo imaging for education of proper imaging techniques, which is critical in evaluation of diastolic dysfunction. Target Audience Cardiologists, echocardiographers, anesthesiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and sonographers who perform, supervise and interpret echocardiograms. The program is also valuable for clinical cardiologists, referring physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, cardiology fellows, residents and other healthcare providers who use echocardiograms in clinical practice. Learning Objectives After attending CVI s 3rd Annual Echo Update, participants will be better able to: Recognize the features of infiltrative cardiomyopathy in general and cardiac amyloidosis in particular. Describe the features of amyloid heart disease that result in the rapid progression of heart failure associated with some types of amyloidosis Discuss the role of newer echocardiographic techniques, such as speckle tracking, in the evaluation of patients with cardiac amyloidosis. Recognize the role of cardiac MRI and CT in the diagnosis of HCM Recognize the role of advanced imaging modalities into risk assessment of sudden death and heart failure symptom management Describe the justification for the use of tissue Doppler in assessment of left atrial filling pressures. Use clinical, two-dimensional and Doppler echocardiographic parameters to assess diastolic function. Apply the new ASE guidelines for the assessment of diastolic function. Compare echo parameters to distinguish patients who will benefit from intervention and those who are not likely to benefit. Consider the limited available data regarding the management of diastolic heart failure when developing effective treatment strategies for patients with diastolic heart failure Incorporate the Heart Failure and Echocardiography Associations of the European Society of Cardiology consensus statement recommendations for the management and prevention of diastolic heart failure.
