1 DAO EARTH Refined Herbal Medicinals A guide to our traditional formulas Pearl of Knowledge & Wisdom Essence of Heaven & Earth M e d i c i n e i s t h e A r t o f H u m a n i t y

3 The View from the Summit Our company was founded in 1998, the year of the Earth Tiger, with the purpose of bringing authentic and efficacious Dao Earth refined herbal preparations to the field of natural medicine. Our goal is to work toward the development of a health care system capable of providing physicians with the tools to manage the care and recovery of their patients. FAR EAST SUMMIT believes that Medicine is the Art of Humanity. We seek to contribute to the understanding that health is dependent upon lifestyle. By encouraging this growing awareness, we hope that leaders, teachers, business people, and most especially physicians, will act with deeper understanding. In association with Lifegate Institute, we publish a periodic newsletter THE VIEW FROM THE SUMMIT, aspiring to share with our culture a clear awareness of the Original Medicine that is within each of us. It is this wisdom, we believe, that can alleviate unnecessary suffering and offer hope to future generations. FAR EAST SUMMIT s CHINESE CLASSICS line of products offers the health care practitioner a bridge into the history of Chinese Medicine, a medicine dating back thousands of years. These time-tested formulas are still the basis for the study and practice of medicine in China and East Asia. We offer the CHINESE CLASSICS in a dedicated effort to further develop the use of Chinese medicine in this country. 3
4 A VIEW OF TRADITION ABOUT OUR NEW LINE OF CONCENTRATES In FAR EAST SUMMIT s efforts to produce superior herbal products, Hank Babcock, L.Ac, Senior Herbalist, and Vice President of Product Development, who has been making herbal products since 1989, has determined that the key to an effective herbal product is first, to seek herbal function, and second, formula concentration. Our herbal and production staff have tasted and tried many herbal liquids of varying degrees of concentration over the years. We concluded that the traditional five flavors and the formula function, which includes the qi dynamic, are often compromised, especially when herbs are processed to produce a product which yields high solids in solution. In other words, it is not the amount of solids by themselves that is important, but the activity of those solids. Our current CHINESE CLASSICS 5:1 formulas have excellent herbal activity and formula function, achieved through our advanced phased processing method which is temperature, pressure, and time-controlled. While our current 5:1 products are effective for most patients, we have observed that strong constitutional-type individuals often require a high dose of our current 5:1 products. Our desire over the years has been to produce a very potent and concentrated herbal liquid especially for these types of individuals. After years of R&D, we now feel that we can present a very potent product through our COMPLETE EXTRACTION 8:1 CONCENTRATE process. This innovative processing method allows us to create an exceptionally concentrated product with very high herbal activity while as with our 5:1 extracts retaining the traditional five flavors and the essential oils without compromising herbal function through processing degradation. 5 THE CULTIVATED PHYSICIAN THE ROLE OF THE CULTIVATED PHYSICIAN A cultivated and skilled physician can truly assist his or her patients, not only in healthcare concerns, but in guiding them to recognize and value their own essential nature. In the modern clinic, many knowledgeable Oriental Medicine practitioners are forced to focus on being skilled technicians, often neglecting the study of Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) which offers deep insight into human nature and the cause and treatment of suffering within humanity. FROM THE CLASSICAL TRANSLATIONS OF THOMAS CLEARY: The Great Person (DA REN): One who corrects both self and others, who is able to restrain people s excesses and encourage their De (integrity), able to solve people s doubts, and develop their wisdom. FROM THE LIFE & TEACHINGS OF HUIYIN DAO FA, ECHO DAOIST MENTOR The understanding of the Living Potential has been central to the teachings and practice of sages and cultivated physicians of both oral and written traditions for thousands of years. For CCM and its culture to take root in the West, this Living Potential must find its rightful place in the life of each health care practitioner. In order for the practitioner to seek and live this Dao of Life he or she must delve deeply into the arts and medicine of the tradition.only by cultivating body-mind-spirit can a practitioner truly assist one s patients. 12
6 & THE ORIGINAL MEDICINE Far East Summit established Lifegate Institute to promote a culture of well-being within our society where Medicine is the Art of Humanity. Together, we believe only a health-care system based on: Cultivated and skilled physicians Refined herbal products, and Lifestyle wisdom will awaken us to the interdependence of life and the necessity of living in balance and harmony on Earth. The intention of Lifegate Institute is to assist in the development of cultivated physicians. In pursuit of this goal, Lifegate Institute presents its CLASSICAL CHINESE MEDICINE & THE CULTIVATED PHYSICIAN series through Dragon Spring Living Arts events and seminars. We seek to provide essential knowledge that will contribute to the growth of a practitioner s skills and wisdom, thereby benefitting patients in the health care setting. May we all help to fulfill the role of this medicine to produce the Living Potential in our society and on this planet. dragon spring living arts WISDOM TEACHINGS The Huangting Classic says: There is nothing special about the immortals and old masters except this: they know how to preserve their jing and concentrate their qi. Thus they can maintain their true being. The profundity of this thought can awaken us all. DONG SHAOMING EXCERPTED FROM HEAVEN EARTH, THE CHINESE ART OF LIVING, VOL. 1 #3, JAN 1993 Lifegate Institute is dedicated to furthering an understanding of the Original Medicine within each individual and to encourage, in the West, the development of a culture based upon lifestyle wisdom for the benefit of future generations.
