This medicine is available without prescription. However, you still need to take Eucarbon carefully to get the best results from it. - Keep this leaflet. You may need to read it again. - Ask your pharmacist if you need more information or advice. - You must contact a doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve after a few days. - If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist. WHAT EUCARBON IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR - The active ingredients contained in Eucarbon are exclusively of vegetable and mineral origin and have a digestion regulating and slightly laxative effect. Vegetable charcoal has the ability to absorb various toxic metabolic substances which are subsequently excreted by the laxative effect of senna leaves and rhubarb extract. Sulphur has also a slightly disinfectant effect in the intestinal tract. - The mild laxative effect of Eucarbon takes place approximately 8-10 hours after administration. - In a small number of patients suffering from constipation occurring concomitantly with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), the application of Eucarbon showed positive results. Indications: - Sluggishness of the bowels - All forms of constipation - Fermentation and putrefying processes in the intestine - Meteorism (elevation of diaphragm) - Flatulence - Intestinal auto-intoxication - Haemorrhoidal constipation 2. BEFORE YOU TAKE EUCARBON Do not take Eucarbon - if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to senna leaves, rhubarb extract, charcoal, purified sulphur or any other ingredients of Eucarbon. - If you have intestinal occlusion, - intestinal inflammations, - unidentified abdominal pain, - severe disorder of the water and mineral balance, - suspected gastric or intestinal ulcer, - appendicitis. Medical attention should be sought if you have any of the above diseases Do not use for children under the age of 12. Do not use during pregnancy and breast-feeding period. Take special care with Eucarbon - if symptoms don t improve or if treatment isn t successful. As the case may be, medical advice should be sought as soon as possible. - in case of pregnancy. Report every occurrence of pregnancy to your physician immediately. The dosage necessary to obtain the desired effect may vary according to individual predisposition. Do not apply Eucarbon for a longer time (over 1-2 weeks) without being medically instructed to do so. Eucarbon is not suited for slimming. In case of continuous long-term application for longer than 14 days, effectiveness may decline. Using other medicines Please tell you doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. If you take cardiac remedies: In case of increased hypocalemia (lack of kalium) the effect of certain cardiac remedies (cardiac glycosides) may be increased. Taking Eucarbon with food and drink Eucarbon can be taken during or after meals. Pregnancy and breast-feeding Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. Eucarbon should not be used during pregnancy or breast-feeding period. Important information about some of the ingredients of Eucarbon One Eucarbon-tablet contains 43,4 mg of sugar (saccharose) and can be taken by diabetics. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product. 3. HOW TO TAKE EUCARBON Always take Eucarbon exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Unless not otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose for adults and juveniles over 12 years is 1-2 tablets up to 3 times a day during or after meals in order to achieve mild laxative effect and reduce flatulence. The dosage necessary to obtain the desired effect may vary according to individual predisposition. For a stronger laxative effect, dosage may be increased up to 3 4 tablets in the evening. The maximal dose of 8 tablets a day should not be exceeded. Eucarbon tablets should be taken with an ample amount of liquid (at least one glass of water). If you take more Eucarbon than you should Diarrhoea may be a sign of over dosage. In this case reduce dosage or discontinue intake of Eucarbon. If you forget to take Eucarbon Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist. 4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS Like all medicines, Eucarbon can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist. - In single cases abdominal pain and diarrhoea have occurred. - In very rare cases (less than 1 person out of ) nausea or vomiting this may be a sign of overdose. - If large doses are taken over a long period of time, this may cause loss of mineral salts, especially of kalium salts, which may result in weakening of the muscles and intensified constipation due to limited bowel activity. - An occasional slight reddish colouring of the urine may occur as an alkaline reaction and is of no significance. 5. HOW TO STORE EUCARBON - Keep out of reach and sight of children. - Store in the original package, in order to protect the medicinal product from light. - Do not use Eucarbon after the expiry date which is stated on the outer carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. - Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment. 6. FURTHER INFORMATION What Eucarbon contains: The active substances are: - senna leaves (folium sennae) 105 mg - rhubarb extract (extractum rhei) 25 mg - vegetable charcoal (carbo ligni) 180 mg - purified sulphur (sulfur depuratum) 50 mg The other ingredients are: sugar (saccharosum), maize starch (amylum maydis), white clay (bolus alba), talc, gum Arabic, essential fennel oil, essential peppermint oil. What Eucarbon looks like and contents of the pack: Grey-black, non-coated tablets without breaking crease, in packs of 10, 30, 50, 100 and 500 tablets.
