2 Introduction from the Head of Education Delivery Thank you for your interest in joining the Anne Frank Trust UK as our West Midlands Project Officer. The information below will give you more information about the Anne Frank Trust UK and the role of the West Midlands Project Officer, and how the role fits within the organisation. Our vision is a society safe from prejudice and discrimination. We draw on the power of Anne Frank s life and diary to empower young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to challenge and resist all forms of prejudice and discrimination. We were established in 1991 by family and friends of Otto Frank, following his wish for an educational organisation to be set up in memory of his daughter Anne. We partner with schools, local authorities, criminal justice education services and others, to deliver education to young people in a variety of settings, predominantly in schools. We educate young people across the UK about Anne Frank, her life and diary and about the Holocaust, making direct links with contemporary issues and events. In 2017, we worked with more than 53,000 individuals in our education programmes as exhibition visitors, workshop participants and peer exhibition guides. We work in six regions across England (North East England, North West England, Yorkshire and Humberside, West Midlands, East of England and London) and in Scotland, and have a dedicated national criminal justice education service. The impact of our work has been recognised by the Equality and Human Rights Commission. We are also identified as a flagship project in the Government's Hate Crime Action Plan. The Anne Frank Trust UK is a sister organisation of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and part of an international Anne Frank community, and has exclusive rights to use Anne Frank s life and diary in the UK to educate young people about all forms of prejudice and discrimination.

Dennis, Anne Frank Ambassador We re currently going through an exciting period of creativity and growth in the Anne Frank Trust UK. We re developing a new three year strategy and implementing new programmes to empower young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to challenge and resist all forms of prejudice and discrimination. We are working towards commemorating Anne Frank on what would have been her 90 th birthday in June In the West Midlands we are currently running Switch off Prejudice. This is an innovative new programme designed to help young people understand the dangers of prejudice and discrimination, particularly online, where they are being increasingly exposed to hate speech. It starts with a two-week programme which we deliver in school, and includes our pop-up exhibition Anne Frank: A History for Today. The exhibition follows the journey of the Frank family s journey from Anne s birth to her death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany. The Frank family s story is told parallel to the rise of Nazi power in Germany and Europe. We train a group of students to become Peer Guides on the exhibition, and they take their fellow students and other visitors around the exhibition. We then run our Switch off prejudice workshops; it ends with us working with a small cohort of students to create a social media campaign to tackle an issue of prejudice or discrimination that concerns them in their school or local community. We also run a primary version of the Switch off Prejudice workshop. Anne Frank + You: Anne Frank + You is our community exhibition, which is split into two sections, historical and contemporary. The historical section is centred on a life-size replica of Anne Frank s bedroom in the secret annexe, and again focuses on the Frank family s journey from Anne s birth to her death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, as well as giving visitors information on the wider context of the Holocaust. The contemporary section looks our society since 1945, exploring themes such as racial hatred, war and conflict, and the value of democracy and freedom. The exhibition is visited by members of the public and by schools groups. It was most recently in the West Midlands at the Walsall College during November 2017, and will come to the West Midlands again in summer 2019.

4 About the West Midlands Project Officer role As West Midlands Project Officer, you will be one of 19 staff members in the education team, working across the UK, and you will be one of seven regional project officers within the team. Under the direction of the West Midlands Regional Manager, you will support the management and delivery of the programmes as described above across the West Midlands. You will also be asked to contribute to the development and revision of products, programmes and resources with your fellow education team members. 5 Job Description ROLE TITLE: West Midlands Project Officer SALARY: Starting salary of between 21,000 to 23,000 per annum, pro rata (term time only). Salary dependent on experience. CONTRACT: A fixed term contract until 31st March HOURS: Full time (37.5 hours per week), term time only (39 weeks). BASED: This role is home-based, but will require considerable travel across the West Midlands. Occasional national travel, including to our head office in Kentish Town, London. TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The role of the Project Officer will include: 1. Training young people to act as peer educators 2. Delivering a range of educational workshops on related issues 3. Building and dismantling the exhibition (light manual work) 4. Managing projects as directed by the Regional Manager 5. Assessing and evaluating all work as directed 6. Ensuring the safety of young people under your supervision 7. Administrative tasks 8. Undertaking training. PERSON SPECIFICATION: Competences, qualifications and experience criteria Experience of working with young people in an educational or youth work setting. Experience of working with secondary aged young people (particularly KS3). Teaching or youth work qualification. Experience of managing and delivering projects on time and within budget. Understands and is passionate about the aims of the Anne Frank Trust UK. An understanding of significant issues that affect the lives of young people in the West Midlands. A good standard of written and spoken English. Good communication skills. Supportive, resilient, reliable and a good ambassador for the Anne Frank Trust. Professional presentation. Ability to maintain good relationships with Anne Frank Trust partners. or
