Your guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the fellowship, enrich their professional and personal knowledge, and meet others within the community. Share your Rotary experience! The object of this Membership Contest is to bring new Rotary members into our clubs and make our presence known to those who are not familiar with Rotary. The membership drive will begin on January 1, 2012 and end on June 30, Each participating club will keep a record of Every Potential Member Guest at a club s meeting, which will count as one point with a maximum of 4 visits per individual guest. (A potential member guests is a guest that has an interest in becoming a member and not just a visitor.) Each month these points are to be submitted to District Membership Co- Chair Herb Orr from the club s attendance keeper with the following information: 1. Beginning club s current membership January 1, Potential Member Guest total for the month. 3. The number of new members inducted in the club The DEADLINE for each submission will be the 15 th of the following month. This allows a club 15 days to submit data which corresponds to District attendance submissions. The total points plus the number of inductees (which have a value of 10 points each) are then divided by the total number of members as of January 1. Each month the top 20 clubs will be published within the District Website and District Newsletter. In the July report to Herb Orr include a total count of every new member inducted from January 1, 2011 through June 30, The number of Potential Member Guests and include the ending club s total membership as of June 30, 2012 The Grand Prize Winning Club will be announced in the August Rotary District 6110 Newsletter and Website. The winning Rotary club will also be recognized at District Conference. **The Grand Prize - is a Traveling Membership Trophy with the club s name and year engraved on the trophy, plus a dinner for two at a local restaurant. **Runner-up Prize will be announced but it will be nice! 2 Polio Plus $ 200 Million Challenge November 19th I road my bicycle in the El Tour de Tucson to raise money for Rotary International s Polio Plus Challenge in an effort to meet Bill Gates challenge grant. You might have read about this terrific Tucson Rotary program in a recent copy of the Rotarian. I committed to the 109 mile course, and trained hard, putting in more than 200 miles a week. I hope that you will sponsor me in my efforts. Any funds that you give will count toward YOUR Paul Harris Fellow recognition, and our club was recognized during the ride. So far, we have raised over $14,000. My goal is to raise $45,000. That is just $100 per member. We ve come so far in the fight against polio. Just consider when Rotary started PolioPlus in 1985, the world saw 350,000 cases of this crippling disease each year (that s almost 1,000 EVERY DAY). And now 443 cases worldwide have been reported so far this year 708 cases worldwide were reported as of this date last year That means we are on track to see less than 1,000 cases in this entire year. You can be part of a huge undertaking. You have an opportunity to help the worldwide eradication of polio. We will reach this goal, it will be only the second time in history that a disease has been eradicated. Smallpox was the first. Thanks for your support! Please submit both a vintage photo of your community as well as a modern photo. Modern photos should show others something distinctive about your community or something distinctive about Rotary in your community. 4 The extreme devastation of Joplin is illustrated in this photo of the Joplin High School where no clean-up has yet occurred. The row of Habitat Houses was about three blocks west of the high school. The Joplin experience has been a very worthwhile way to serve, but some have gone to even greater efforts than the Rotarians in District In the house where we worked one Thursday, we met a couple from Portland, OR, Jeremy and Holly Anderson. They felt that they wanted to do something to help Joplin, found the Habitat 10 in 10 program described on a website, and came to Joplin on their vacation for a week. Impressive! We Rotarians were substantially above the median age. Many of the workers were in their 20s and 30s, which is a good sign for volunteerism. My wife asked how me many other homes needed to built and if our work is enough to make a difference. I replied that there are thousands of homes to be constructed. What we did was very much like the boy walking along the seashore who was throwing stranded starfish back into the water. Just as he said, "The ones I throw in will have a life," at least a few people we helped will have new homes. We made a difference. The Habitat people were very organized from our arrival until we departed, and we planned to return on Saturday the 12th.
