1 December/January Newsletter Lodi Elementary and OSC Hello Families and Caregivers, It is hard to believe it is already December. Time sure flies when you are having fun and we are having fun at CLOSE (LES and OSC letters mixed up to make one word). Newsletter In this edition of the newsletter I wanted to introduce you to our new look. As you can see we made some formatting changes to help families find the information they are looking for in an easier and more convenient way. The goal of this format change is to have our newsletter be more user friendly across platforms and give you the news you need. If you have feedback on the format, the content or, upcoming topics you would like to see please share them with us, we would love your feedback. Facebook Page We have also been working on our Facebook page. Our goal is to make it a location to share school news, school information and general information families/caregivers might find valuable like this link to an article about kids getting cell phones- What s The Right Age To Give Your Kid A Cellphone? We look forward to the return of students in the New Year on January 2. - With the winter months arriving and snow on the ground, we are requesting that you send extra clothing in case your child s clothes get wet while playing at recess. -Hats, gloves and boots are always a bonus to have at school also. Kids can store them in their cubbies. 2 Social Work Corner This past month, small group counseling/skills building sessions began at LES/OSC. These are 30 minute groups that run for six weeks that give students a chance to belong and connect with others, a chance to express themselves, and an opportunity to benefit from the support of group members who share a common concern. Some topics that are offered for students include friendship, anxiety, and emotional regulation. Topics chosen are typically based on students needs as identified through referrals from teachers, parents, and, in some cases, students themselves. Parent permission is required for a student to participate in a small counseling group/skills building sessions. If you are interested in having your child participate in a small group, please contact your child s teacher or contact the school social worker, Abby Tejeda, at ext Giving Back at LES/OSC Sleep in Heavenly Peace The 4 th graders of LES had a successful bedding drive. We received many donations from students of all grades. We are proud to be able to help a great cause and give back when we can. Mad Dash Turkey Dash In OSC, students participated in a Mad Dash Turkey Dash. This was a week-long dash to collect items for Reach out Lodi. They then took a walk over to Reach Out Lodi to deliver the items and get a tour. Another Successful drive for a great cause! Mrs. Juntunen s Veterans Day Project In Mrs. J s class students made pies for the Veterans who attended our Veterans Day Program on v. 12. These were frozen take and bake pies and were a big hit! We truly have incredible students here in Lodi. The kids are constantly thinking of ways to help and give back. There is talk about some future things in the mix so be watching for updates! 4 The Veterans Day Program at LES/OSC was a success. The Presentation of Colors was done by Lodi Cub Scout Pack #355, which is made up of students from LES/OSC. Students honored Veterans from our community through songs, readings and take and bake pies during the program. Students also showed their gratitude with pictures and thank you cards for the Veterans. 5 Throughout the week leading up to Thanksgiving, classes got creative and used different ways to show what they are thankful for. These projects ranged from thankful pumpkins, to Thanksgiving Feasts, to all day read-a-thons and thankful pictures and videos.
