L VE CONNECTION 2014 Summer Class Graduates Fall 2014 Issue IN THIS ISSUE Jobs For Life 1 Churches host Jobs for Life Volunteer Spotlight Jobs for Life Graduations Church Relations Love s Treasury Statistics of Helping Someone asked me recently, "So, what do you do Catt?" I happily answered, "I teach a Christian based, adult work readiness program. I get to teach people how to take their worth and value from who God says they are, not who the world says they are. It's my dream job!" We often get asked that question, when we first introduce ourselves; "So, what do you do?" Whether in a social situation, at a child's sporting event or school function, or when being introduced in a group setting; when you are unemployed, for whatever reason, that's a tough question to be asked. It often leaves you feeling ashamed, embarrassed, and "less than'. As the instructor and Program Director for Jobs For Life; through Love INC, one of the first things I try to determine about the students, at the first class, is how do they see THEMSELVES. They use words like: fearful, indecisive, depressed, low self-esteem, doubtful, no self-worth, need direction, discouraged. Through the 16 week course, with the encouragement and support of their mentors, fellow students and God's word, there comes a shift in their thinking. Hope enters their hearts. There's a moment, when you see that shift, and it's a thing of beauty. Lisa, a student from our summer session, looked at life through glasses of fear and doubt. She faced some heart-breaking challenges during our months of class, yet had 16 sessions of perfect attendance. The cap and gown she wore at graduation was the first in her life. On the last day of our summer class, I asked each student to come forward and write on the white board, how they now saw themselves. Lisa wrote, 'Beautiful'. She then signed up to be a mentor in our current fall session of Jobs For Life. Won't you please consider using the gifts, talents, skills and abilities that God has blessed you with, to be a mentor in our upcoming, February 2015 session of Jobs For Life? You are so needed by someone in your community! Join with us as we come in agreement with God to help transform lives! In His Name, Catt Kimball Jobs For Life Program Director loveinc.catt@gmail.com Give DIGNITY. Turn Roadblocks to STEPPING STONES. Provide Aid that Lasts a LIFETIME.

LOVE CONNECTION VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT Donna Harvey Donna was referred to Love INC by her brother, Pastor Dave Halbert, in Molalla, Oregon. She was looking for a Christian organization to get involved with, to be able to use her skills and talents to make a Kingdom difference. She has been volunteering since September Donna spends most of the time helping on the phones, talking to those families who call in for help. With her skills she also spent many hours at home, researching and updating resources available to help people for us. In all she has invested more than 300 hours this year! Recently she played a huge part in our summer Jobs for Life session, mentoring many students at one time since we were not able to recruit enough mentors for each student. What a labor of love she is! When asked what is it about the ministry that has caused her to invest so much of your life here, she said, It s Christian based, the intent is of filling in the gaps of practical help available to people in need through the churches. It allows me to be a part of God s chosen fast~ to help those in need and give back through my time, skills and experience. Donna also said, There s an avenue of ministry available for everyone, and you have the privilege of being a part of helping advance God s agenda & changing lives. 2

Donna B. is a success story! We are so proud of the challenges she has overcome as a result of being a part of this program! LOVE CONNECTION Sheila, a JFL graduate, is our new Student Relations Leader for JFL! Lisa excelled in the program and is now a mentor for the next class! 3

Church Relations It is =me again to start planning for our 2015 budgets. We know churches are also planning their budgets with their congrega=ons. Please include the ministry of Love INC into your benevolence and local mission budget by partnering with us for The purpose of Love INC is to help churches help our neighbors in need. Our mission at Love INC is to help mobilize the churches of Pierce County and their members to live out their faith through service to those in need, so that we can see lives transformed in the name of Christ. We are much more effec=ve in doing this county- wide when we unite together as the body of Christ. I would like to introduce you to Makena Quinn, our newest staff member. She is our new Church Rela=ons Director and brings with her a passion to unite the body of Christ. Makena is excited and expectant to see Love INC grow with the partnerships of churches and see more lives transformed in Pierce County. She believes that our calling is simple yet great: love God & love people. She believes that Love INC is providing her the opportunity to do just that. She knows that when we all join together as the body of Christ, only one en=ty gets the recogni=on: God. Makena has been transformed by the idea of loving the one. She knows that if the community collec=vely focused on loving one person, we would see a drama=c change in the lives around us. A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:35). The need is great in our county and we need your help to make a difference. So far this year, we have received $54,250 from the churches yet our expenses have been $131,965. Churches are providing support to operate 42% of Love INC. To fully operate this ministry, we have received support from businesses individuals and churches. Our founda=on giving is down by $21,000 from This year we have received requests for help from 1,208 new families with a total of 1,260 needs. These requests have asked for more than $256,870 in financial assistance and we have been able to recruit help from the churches in the amount of $59,166 that directly helps clients. This is fulfilling about 23% of that need. With your support 3,774 individuals have been directly or indirectly helped in their need. At Love INC, we believe that real transforma=on happens when we see beyond the person s direct need and begin to focus on the person. We believe that our charity compassion is best u=lized when coupled with developmental compassion, which allows us to engage the recipient in finding a solu=on to their current need. We want to enter into a personal rela=onship with our clients to help them see their poten=al to change their lives. We are able to do this directly through our Jobs for Life Program. Throughout our 6 previous Jobs for Life classes, we have truly witnessed lives transformed. Con=nued on page

LOVE CONNECTION Love s Treasury Hi, My name is Sheila and I am new to LoveINC. I work in the Love's Treasury Bookstore. It combines my greatest passions: books and serving others! My favorite thing about working in the book store is the old and out of print books we have. We have a very small collection of old books, some dating back to the 1800's. My chosen favorite at the moment is "Library of Religious Poetry" copyrighted in It is a thick volume of poetry from that era about the" times and seasons, contemplates of life and experience, Poet Contemplates The Saviour". The book gives a little bio about each author and has some illustrations throughout. I think I will be very sad to see the book sold, but I know that whomever buys it will have a love of poetry and old books as much as I do. One of my duties is receiving book donation s when they come in. I get a little history of the books, some are highlighted and have writing within the margins. Other books are pristine and new, like they have never been open, some have wear from long time use. I also shelf the books and determine if we could sell it in our Amazon section. Our Amazon section are books that have a higher value than the other books in the store. My second favorite thing about working in the bookstore is getting to meet people. While helping them find a book, I talk to them about Love INC, their life and sometimes get to encourage and pray with them. So if you are looking for a book, come check us out first!.if you are wanting to clear your bookshelves out, then you might want to donate them to us! We are located on South Hill, Puyallup at: th St Ct E. #B Looking forward to meeting you! By the way. We keep getting asked for CHILDREN S BIBLES and we have none. If you have any that can be donated we would really appreciate it!! Sheila 5

LOVE CONNECTION Volunteer Opportunities!! Follow-up Phone Volunteers~ 2-3 hours per week~ Once a week Mentors for the Jobs For Life program Encourage others Join us in this Movement of God There is JOY in serving God! Church Relations ~ cont. from page 4 We were able to help people beyond their current need and provided lifelong tools to help them succeed. Your financial support helps us support and transform lives in our communi=es through our call center help line, Jobs For Life Program and Love s Treasury, our community Chris=an bookstore. Please consider making a monthly commitment to our ministry for the 2015 calendar year. We pray you and your church will see the value of this non- profit in our community and choose to partner with us by financially suppor=ng the expenses we have. Please join our ministry to see lives changed in the name of Christ. Thank you for taking the =me to hear about our ministry and how it operates. For more info contact Makena at or loveincchurches@gmail.com 6

We are still in need of a Church to host our February 2015 Jobs For Life class Your partnership not only changes the life of the student but also the lives of their children. Individuals are overcoming boundaries and road blocks. They are truly seeking self-sufficiency and the hope of fulfilling the purpose that God created them for. Housing the program is more than just offering a space to Love INC, it is offering a safe place to a neighbor in need. We partner together to put on this program. It becomes a program of your church. We are still looking for a host church for February We are asking: What s involved with a Church hosting Jobs For Life? ü A space to hold about 26 people. ü This includes 10 students, 10 mentors and the leadership team. ü A meal for the participants at 6:00 p.m. ü A children s ministry program. ü Students may have children. Age can range from infant to 12 years of age. ü That the host church can provide at least half of the mentors. (5) The Jobs For Life training course is a Godly answer to the struggling families who survive on government benefits and church pledges to help make ends meet. Year to date helping statistics ** Note: For each requested need, it usually takes about 4 different churches to meet that family s need. For 332 needs met, churches helped about 1328 times. Financial Assistance Requested $256,870 Churches helped people with Number of needs people had Needs met Volunteer hours given / Value $59, / $70,182 Together we can do so much more than any one of us alone! 7
