2 Program Tim Costello - Hope and change through Community Development Tim Costello will inspire staff and volunteers with stories from Australia and overseas. Stories that highlight the power and impact of local community development initiatives, that bring people together and help communities to thrive. Tim brings considerable experience, knowledge and ideas from his role as CEO at World Vision Australia, Chair of Community Council of Australia and chief advocate of the Thriving Communities Partnership. Tim is a vocal supporter of the community development work of Neighbourhood Houses, and is a passionate voice for social justice issues, and will share insights into what works locally to engage and empower local community. Tim has played significant roles in a variety of organisations, including Executive Director of Urban Seed, an Australian community development organisation, focused on the idea that everybody needs a place to belong especially those experiencing homelessness, addiction, mental illness or isolation. Wednesday evening reception at Government House Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, AC, Governor of Tasmania, invites Conference delegates to join her for a reception at Government House to thank you for your contribution to Tasmania. 3 Photographic Competition Feeling creative with a camera? NHT is looking to increase our collection of photographs that showcase the important work that staff and volunteers do for our community. We need to build our resources of current relevant images from Houses for when we are promoting your work. So grab the opportunity to get creative and show off your great work through the lens of your camera or phone. Get full details of the competition from the Conference page of the website. House How to's...short presentations Have you got a good story about how you manage common tasks and activities in your House? Or can you share a quick story about your successful project, program or event in your House or community? Maybe you even have an Epic Fail that you are willing to share to help others avoid? We would love to hear about it at the NHT State Conference in Hobart September. Again more details and an EOI form on the Conference page of the NHT website. 5 Workshops Workshop 1 - Making videos with your smartphone with David Pyefinch. David has been working in media for over 20 years. Having helped us with the media training for Emerging Voices he is now returning to run this fun workshop. In the leadup to the Conference, David is working with some folks from a Neighbourhood House to go through the motion of making a small video. David will then run an interactive session to show you the process. The do s and don t s - the basics of making short videos about the activities and stories you want to tell from your your House - all using your smartphone or tablet, or, strangely video camera. How do you set up for good shots? How do you capture the story you want to tell? What about lighting, and sound? Workshop 2 - Food Security and Community Gardening with Michael Cook Michael has been involved at a grassroots level with food security issues for more than 25 years. He is a qualified horticulturist and teacher/trainer. He has worked on food security projects in Thailand and Myanmar including establishing a 200-acre food farm and community garden in Chiang Rai. Through practical hands-on experience, he has developed extensive knowledge and skills in relation to food production and community development projects. Michael will begin with a brief overview of food security, and then address the following: Why we need to be interested in food security (present and future threats to food security) What we can do to take individual and group action to improve food security Break out group activity small groups networking and brainstorming with members from other community gardens, discussing future directions and strategies for gardens on how to awaken the sleeping giant. Small working groups to then share ideas with the whole group. Workshop 3 - Facebook 2.0 Tara thrives on applying her strengths, combined with extensive experience in branding and marketing. Having started her own marketing company at just 23 she joined S. Group in 2017 as Director Brand & Marketing. In just 12 months, Tara has worked recently with University College, ANZ and Dorset Council. Kelsey has her finger on the pulse of all things social media and digital marketing, and strives to help small businesses thrive and make a valuable contribution to Tasmania. Determination, ingenuity and a positive attitude are her weapons of choice. You may have attended Tara s workshop on Facebook and social media two years ago. In this session Tara and Kelsey will check in where you are at, and look at more ways to harness the power of social media for more engagement in your House and activities. Creating Groups, Events, and how to increase engagement and better target your audience for the more significant activities and events you want to run in your community.

Workshop 5 will be different morning and afternoon Workshop 4 - Self Care - Looking after you Everyone knows if you aren't doing well then you're no good to anyone else. This workshop will be a time to chill out while providing you with self care and relaxation skills & tips to take away and make habits. Take some well earned time-out for you. Workshop 5 Morning - Financial Reporting made easier This session will provide a forum for all who are involved in Houses finances a chance to discuss what good, easy to understand financial reports look like...and what they don't. In this session, we will address what a good board report looks like, and will include a template for using in your organisation. We will cover the legal requirements, as well as the obligations for reporting on funding from Government. There will be plenty of opportunity to answer your questions and make connections with others who are travelling the journey towards improved financial management and reporting. Workshop 5 Afternoon - DV Aware - Lifeline Do you want to understand the initial signs of domestic and family violence, and know how to respond appropriately and refer colleagues, friends and family members if necessary? Lifeline offers variations of awareness sessions aimed at laying the foundations to understanding and responding to domestic and family violence issues.
