4 Active Prospects Active Prospects supports people with learning disabilities, physical and mental health needs, to live full lives. We have 250 staff and support 300 people in Surrey, Croydon and West Sussex. We have been going for nearly 30 years. We have a group of people who are supported by Active Prospects called people we support. This group is involved in all aspects of our organisation. We want to make our organisation better and support more people in new ways. 4

5 Our values Working with people we support, we have agreed 6 main values: Aspiring We want to work together so we all achieve the most that we can do. Caring We care about others. Trusting People can trust us because we always do what we say. We will explain what we are doing and why we are doing it. Including We include everyone. Valuing We value people. Enabling We work together so that everyone can help to make our organisation better. 5

6 Our services We offer person centred services to vulnerable and disabled people. We support people to: Live independently Have a healthy lifestyle Be a good tenant and look after their home Live in a good community Have good relationships Take part in activities. We support people to: Live in their own home Live in residential care homes Have short breaks Have chances to work and learn. 6

8 Making our plans We have made this plan by talking to: Our staff People we support._.,, - _M' Ii, _ The people who pay for our work This is our plan for the next 3 years 2020 We will look at the plan every year and bring it up to date. 8

9 What is happening in the UK Over the last 8 years there have been big cuts to the amount of money going to support people. Over the next 10 years we think that there will be more people with learning disabilities wanting support. More people are homeless. There will be changes to benefits. Many people will have less money. The rise in the Living Wage means that we have to pay more to our staff, but we don t always get more money to cover this. 9

10 What we need to do We need to better understand what the people we support want to do in their lives. : Health - Moving.. (onfidential : and - and : : safety handling _ ; - - We need better policies and ways of working. We need to be better at getting and keeping good staff. We need to have new and better services for people. We need to check that we are giving a high quality service. 10

11 What we are good at We are getting great ideas from people we support. We have some really good services and staff. We have lots of homes in great accessible places. People are very committed to what we do. Our business is good. We don t waste money, and we don t owe very much money. We are really good at many things, and help people achieve their goals. 11

12 What we need to improve We have been updating many of our properties, and developing new ones. We get too much work from one area. We need to look for more work in different areas. We need to get really good at more things, and celebrate this more. 12

13 Our top 10 things we wish to do 1. Work with our people to be outstanding 2. Keep profitable and grow 3. Do more new things such as more jobs for people 4. Attract and keep our best staff 5. Provide more and better homes 6. Support more people with complex needs 7. Value people and staff and recognise and celebrate their successes 8. Develop more support approaches and social connections 9. Become better known for our great work and people 10. Make a bigger impact on our community and be better at showing this 13

14 Being better for people we support We want to work with people we support to plan for the future and manage the organisation. People we support should make more links with local services. We need to raise more money so people we support can do more. We involve people we support in training, finding new staff and quality reviews. Every 3 months we have a big meeting with families. 14

15 People we support are involved in helping to get the right people sharing a home together. All people we support are involved in day to day tasks, have good activities and good links with their local communities. People we support should have good groups of friends and interests. Every year we ask people we support what they think about our services. All people we support have opportunities for work and learning. 15

16 Better services We have a new way of checking that each service is doing the things that we want it to do. We use more ways to find out what people want in their own lives and have more choice in their plans. We monitor people s outcomes. Our safeguarding committee tell the main board about things that happen. 16

17 We develop how we support people with: Behaviours of concern Complex needs Dementia Mental Health problems Autism. We will develop new ways to communicate with people. We will look at using new technology to support people better. 17

18 Better for staff We want to be really good at: Supervising our staff Recruiting new staff Training our staff Supporting our staff. We hold a regular staff forum and union meetings. We want to have more volunteers to help make life better for people we support. 18

19 A stronger organisation We want to improve the way the organisation is run by: Looking at better computer systems for looking after money and our staff Recruiting more people for our board and to improving training for board members Making sure we are fair to everyone Developing a policy for the environment 19

20 Looking at how we use our money to build new homes Thinking about borrowing some money to use to take on new work Doing some work at a number of properties to improve them Having a better system of repairing homes. 20

21 New ideas We want to: Work together more with other organisations Learn new ways of doing things from other organisations Change the way we work so that: We try new ideas more often We can learn more from things that we have done Look for funding so that we can try out new ideas and start new projects 21
